I'm off badge hunting for the moment but I'm dead set keen to sink my cores into the 64bit app. Is there any word yet on when it will go into production?

+1 too. Fear it got set back a bit due the GPFS issues of last week and why the kernel update caused all these problems to include double connect counters. Am sure the distro mechanism needs to be set, plus asked admin for a full set of instructions. Pure 64 bit systems will then only get C4CW. System Requirements page is in need of update too so it's clear which sciences will be offered in 64 bit on what platform, and of course the demands for *more* arriving ;>)
Of course the scientists need to approve the output... to Beijing and back :D --//-- |

Putting 64-Bit for C4CW to production will happen prior to the end of March. Hopefully sooner. We've got some documentation to fix up and also some announcements to prepare. |

can you tell us the performance differences between the 64 bits vs the 32 bits? If it is significant, then I won't run it on my 32 bit system and increase its priority on my 64 bit systems.

anhhai,
Did not look if you had some of the betas, but on my Linux 64 OS the average of 6 runs was about 6% faster for the 64 bit compile v 32 bit. Stands to reason that 32 bit on 32 bit OS is slower by a few percentage points. Seems also the AMD CPUs had greater gain, if there are any in your farm. Think to have seen 15-30% from different reports. Maybe, maybe not, but probably some of that goodies news will be saved for the announcement ... certainly I'd smack it in there ;>) --//-- |

thx Sekerob. I did have a few betas but since I haven't been crunching C4CW for a while, I couldn't compare. I will be starting to crunch all projects again in about a month once I achieve my goal with HFCC.

Do you need the 64-bit version of BOINC for this, or will it work on a 64-bit OS with the standard 32-bit version of BOINC?

Nope, the 32 bit client (6.10.58 recommended) will handle them too, long as the OS is identified as 64 bits. Trust this will be restated in the launch documentation.
--//-- PS, obvious WCG will start to pointing to 64 bit builds of the client for those that have an OS that can't possibly take 32 bit executables and the enrollment routine detecting these so the right compile is offered. |
