"Failure when receiving data from the peer"

Greetings, everyone. I have joined the World Community Grid recently, while I was participating in other BOINC projects and having older version of BOINC client (on Windows 7). After I joined the WCG, I installed the new BOINC client (6.10.58) downloaded from the WCG website, and I started updating the WCG. The messages I got looked like this:

7/3/2554 20:28:53 World Community Grid update requested by user
7/3/2554 20:28:55 World Community Grid Sending scheduler request: Requested by user.
7/3/2554 20:28:55 World Community Grid Requesting new tasks for CPU and GPU
7/3/2554 20:28:56 Project communication failed: attempting access to reference site
7/3/2554 20:28:56 World Community Grid Scheduler request failed: Failure when receiving data from the peer
7/3/2554 20:28:59 Internet access OK - project servers may be temporarily down.

I already entered the proxy information (since my school's Wi-Fi has it), and I tried every solution in the FAQ to solve this problem, but I still got these messages. Also, my other BOINC projects can download tasks without any problems, but not the WCG. Any help here?

Boy, The year 2554 has arrived ;0. You'd think that by then any workunit will have expired.

Sorry, I'm in Thailand, where the year is 2554 B.E.

Re: "Failure when receiving data from the peer"

That's fine Naruto W, but the security certificates only get validated if your computer(s) tell WCG it's March 7, 2011, on the global reference calendar. Only WCG cares about this, the other projects don't.

cheers

Re: "Failure when receiving data from the peer"

Thank you SekeRob, but does my computer tell WCG its system time (which is currently March 7, 2011) regardless of where I am in the world?

Re: "Failure when receiving data from the peer"

Correct, anywhere. If you then cross the dateline, from west to east you could end up being on the 6th and from east to west on the 8th if the computer time is synchronized with the internet UTC time offset. But it's not required to be exact, long as the system date is within a few days.

Oh, of course, Welcome to WCG and the Forums. Much appreciating your contributions.

Happy Crunching,

edit: But to confirm, did you change the system date and did this fix the problem? Guess you visited this FAQ to find a solution: Scheduler request failed: Failure when receiving data from the peer

Re: "Failure when receiving data from the peer"

Thank you again, but I still get those messages. Maybe, as I think, I should go and use Wi-Fi at some place else with no proxy (say, my home, because I'm at the school's dormitory right now) and try reconnecting to WCG. What would you suggest?

Re: "Failure when receiving data from the peer"

Maybe speak to the school administrator, explain what WCG does and get the exact proxy settings. At the same, you might be winning one more volunteer.

If you're disallowed to use the school network to connect to WCG, then yes, by all means, connect via home, fetch however much work you need till the next trip home, maybe the weekends, and crunch with BOINC off-line. The standard deadline for all tasks except some very rare work is 10 days.

Let us know.

edit: reference below's post, BOINC would warn in case you'd forget to manually reconnect

Re: "Failure when receiving data from the peer"

Oh, another thing, I got these messages recently:

3/7/2011 10:42:17 PM World Community Grid update requested by user
3/7/2011 10:42:22 PM World Community Grid Fetching scheduler list
3/7/2011 10:42:25 PM World Community Grid Master file download succeeded

followed by:

3/7/2011 10:42:30 PM World Community Grid Sending scheduler request: Requested by user.
3/7/2011 10:42:30 PM World Community Grid Requesting new tasks for CPU and GPU
3/7/2011 10:42:31 PM Project communication failed: attempting access to reference site
3/7/2011 10:42:31 PM World Community Grid Scheduler request failed: Failure when receiving data from the peer

What does this mean? I'm just curious, anyway.
