That reminds me - Dave T, how goes your remodel? Several things have been done... All of the windows have been replaced with dual pane Jeld-Wen replacements. The bathroom windows had to be resized, one of the master bedroom windows resized and moved, and the other moved. The movement was based on my preferences. All other new windows have been installed. The house has been wrapped in building paper and chicken wire is being installed for the stucco finish. It takes three layers of stucco to do the job. The sunroom has been delivered and the wood beams finished. Tomorrow the sunroom will be installed. The roofing is complete for the new garage and the roofing materials were delivered today for the new part of the house. Things are progressing to my satisfaction. Wow! Pretty major. That last sentence is the most important part though. |

RT you add another machine as your number sure are up! Started my beast today! Took a while to get it going as had hooked one of the power cables in backwards! Not bad for the only issue. Need to lode Linux! Have an extra copy of windows 7 and as known easier but really want to us ubutu. How does it work on initial boot. If I copy to thumb drive place it in USB port and start the computer? Clearly I am lost but perhaps one of the wiser ones on our team can direct me to help. Saw Gerald had posted a link to help on audio issues, not sure if that is where I need to go but sure would like to significantly max out my numbers as I am tired of our team dropping down. Sounded good!

Saw Gerald had posted a link to help on audio issues, not sure if that is where I need to go but sure would like to significantly max out my numbers as I am tired of our team dropping down. Sounded good! Yes I did add a new Ubuntu I7/2600 to the herd. I keep tinkering with it so it is not at full song yet..but the time will come. I will be swaping it over to windows 7 to use as my work machine and converting my work machine (I7/860) to Ubuntu. It is a bunch of work moving disk drives and reconnecting shared drives, changing the backup schemes, reinstalling software, etc. and I have been covered up with work, hosting many family/in-laws etc. I will get to movement but not quite yet. Download the 64 bit version of Ubuntu here I suggest you use version 10.10 and then burn the .iso to a DVD using the instructions on that page (step 4) using Windows 7. Then just use that DVD to boot your new machine (you may have to hit F2 or whatever to force it to boot from the CD.) Then follow instructions. ![]() Edit. Then you use firefox (on the top-of-screen-menu) to download boinc from Berkley. After it is downloaded, use the menu to find the "terminal" (command line interface) and issue the following two commands: sudo apt-get install libc6-i386 sudo apt-get install boinc-client boinc-manager Then close the terminal window. Use the menu to find Boinc Manager, start it and proceed like you do with windows. Ubuntu acts like windows just upside down when it comes to menus and task bar etc. ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by RT at Mar 12, 2011 5:22:52 PM] |
