Yes it is ALIVE and survived the night! No crashes and running 24 tasks simultaneously, running HCC as has shortest run time per task and striving for a total of ten years for that project. RT will have to check Frankenstein when I get home tonight! Running 64 bit Windows, though would really prefer Linux! That said will switch to Linux, Ubuntu ASAP and start cranking up the over clocking. Also will try to install drivers for solid state drivers. Once hit enough tasks to equal ranking in points and ten years run time for HCC will probably switch to highest point per hour task, as this one is not very generous! Golly o in the mornin you sure got it kickin!!! ![]() |

Once hit enough tasks to equal ranking in points and ten years run time for HCC will probably switch to highest point per hour task, as this one is not very generous! It will be less generous on Linux. About 50% less until the 6.40 Windows version of HCC goes live. Then it may change. If it's any consolation you'll do a bunch more WUs in Linux for 50% less points. If the points ratio stays the same for Windows when 6.40 starts I will stay with Windows to run HCC on the newer stuff.I can post some screen shots to show the difference if you'd like.

Judson, now that you have the SATA in and the machine working, maybe you can use Windows to format the SSD and set it up for dual boot with Ubuntu. That way, you could do some comparasions and decide which one to stay with.h

Both Nanoprobe and keithhenry have very good points though. I have been running HCC exclusively for some months now. I suppose that I believe in that cause more than the others for some reason (perhaps because I am a survivor). I am on the verge of converting my I7 2600 from Ubuntu to Win 7 Ultimate 64. I bought a new 640Gb WD Black Caviar for that purpose. It is kind of a hot drive but the performance is really good .... for a traditional spinning drive. nanoprobe...if you have the screen shots handy, and they are really comparable, I would like to see them. Everyone have a great evening. ![]() edit> spelling ![]() ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by RT at Mar 30, 2011 10:15:54 PM] |

nanoprobe...if you have the screen shots handy, and they are really comparable, I would like to see them. Here ya go. i7-860 @ 3.5GHz. Linux 64 bit i7-2600k @ 4.5 Ghz. Win 7 Pro 64 bit. ![]() Both are crunching HCC exclusively. The 2 really low days on the 2600k were when I was playing with the OC for hours on end. ![]()

..............................CONGRATULATIONS dubhain ON REACHING 300,000 MOT POINTS !!!.............................. Thanks. I've been turning-in sub-par results, lately, as I've been working + gaming a lot and the dammed game (Dragon Age:Origins) tends to crash when BOINC is crunching. But every little bit helps. One of these days I'll have another box or two working on WCG as well. Hope everyone is well and life's being good to you. |
