Keithhenry, Thanks for the info! I downloaded the universal driver disc driver pro and ndisgtk as the site you directed but can dot "find it" on the disc when I try to view the D drive! As nubie to Linux am lost! I am using UDF volume on my screen when viewing my Linux. I assume that is where in Linux one opens programs on the disc in CD drive. Hopefully I am making sense. Am I using wrong app to view. When I click on UDF volume to open the Disc it started my disc is one of many disc and I have them in wrong order or there is no terminal statement. Usually when I load a disc it pops up automatically on Windows but appears not to be case with Ubutu? I apologize for the multiple questions but sure would like to get the beast going and crunching. Of note I did look all over Internet reading definitions and looking for answers but still stuck. Thanks. Judson, when it comes to installing any flavor of linux, you know more than I do. I just did a bit of searching in hopes of helping you move in the right direction. Maybe Dubby or RT will have some ideas. You could also try some of the linux forums that Dubby's given links to. Good luck! |

Keithhenry yes I am quickly beco
Ing more knowledgeable on Linux whether I want to or not! The not version is my preference and reason I did not go into computer science as it is as quirky as the English language! Found download to open deb files but when copy to disc and load to my Linux machine ( tried two different versions). ( I do not give up easy) they do not show up on list of programs on disc despite triple checking they were there on Windows machine and making sure they were unblocked after first attempt did not work! Guess by time my computer is obsolete, at this rate will be able to contribute to team! Thanks again keithhenry! |

Dave, love that the remodel is turning out so well. As major as it sounds and with you clearly planning to stay there for a long time, it's especially good that you're happy with the results so far. Dittos to that--- Hoping they did good job on insulation---Maybe by the end of next week my house will be ready to move in---carpet goes in Tuesday and bring furniture from storage--then i will call Hughes net and get our Crunchers back on line--also Kudos to RT for meeting me in Marble Falls Tx.and giving me a great little cruncher!!! ![]() As for the installation of the sunroom, I am very glad I chose to have people who have been doing this some time do the work. An unimaginable amount of time was saved as a result and no mistakes were made if an amateur did the work. You get what you pay for. |

Guess by time my computer is obsolete, at this rate will be able to contribute to team! Thanks again keithhenry! I know so little about Linux/Ubuntu that if is shameful. I downloaded the OpSys disks, booted and then did only what I mentioned in pervious posts. You likely know more than I do about it. The one suggestion that I have is to go to the component (wireless card) manufacturer and poke around for Linux drivers. If you cant find them, use the contact us and ask where they can be found. |

I am not really knowledgeable about Linux and the only reason that I am running it is that it gives more throughput of work units than does windows on some if not all projects. So, I have remained minimalist on Linux/Ubuntu and have long felt that if things ran as well on Windows, then I would not use other operating systems.
----------------------------------------Not that I am enamored with Mrs Gates boy Bill or with Windows in general but rather I understand windows fairly well, write programs for it and "live" there. (Perhaps it is a case of preferring the Devil you know to the one you don’t) Now I see that there is a Beta project that is trying to get HCC to run better on Windows. http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,31040 If this project is successful in getting the HCC to run about as well, I will happily convert my Ubuntu machines to Windows. This posting is to let anyone interested know that while I have encouraged people to run Linux for the increased throughput, I do not like maintaining 2 operating systems on these computers and will simplify things when and if the opportunity presents itself by going back to windows only. I don’t want to speak for Gerald but I believe he will likely concentrate all his gear on Ubuntu/Linux. |

thanks guys, I do have a licensed Window disc I could use but initially had trouble loading to a SATA drive. perhaps I should go back to that. Did see betas on faster Windows program which is working so know it is coming, but I am stuck both ways.
