WU Prop

Anyone running WU Prop that is experiencing networking issues should restart their system.

There is a bug in the version 2.36 for Windows.
The application slows down or blocks the network.
You should abort the workunit if you run this version".

Re: WU Prop

skgiven,

Is that a message belonging on the WCG forums, and in BOINC support at that? However well intended, it really has zero-zilch to do with the running of WCG, and if at all, is for the Chat Room > all other business imho.

thx.

Re: WU Prop

These forums are well read but WU Prop does not get much of a look in. Try working out which of twenty odd projects is causing an outage. I just wanted people to know that this serious error exists, and requires a restart. Obviously it has nothing to do with any projects here, except that they will stop uploading finished tasks and stop getting any new work until they reboot their systems. From experience its quite serious, and it is likely to have affected many crunchers here. Feel free to move/delete as you wish.

Re: WU Prop

Thanks for the heads-up, I was wondering why I had to reboot everything.

Re: WU Prop

There's a Project Down thread for this over at Berkeley http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dev/forum_thread.php?id=6318, specifically maintained for issues that disallow contacting a grid or letting the BOINC world know there's outage time somewhere.

PS, duely moved by admin to Chat Room.

Re: WU Prop

Thanks skgiven. I too had to reboot and thought it had to do with my routers. Now, I know it was BOINC projects and don't have to go tweaking anything. I for one agree that if another project is interfering with my participation in this one, it has merit to be discussed.

Had you contextualised the OP to say that "all projects are blocked from networking" it would have come across and this debate would have been superfluous.

thx.
