For those running mutliple machines, "retrieving current status"

Hello,

First post here, basically was bored last night and thought I would contribute some time for something worthwhile. I configured some extra machines so now I have 5 machines here at home running various projects. Everything is fine except the last machine I installed the client on has been "retrieving current status" for more than 12 hours.

Is there a limit for projects at one IP address? Everything is configured right and I have more than ample bandwidth. Thank you for your time and help.

Re: For those running mutliple machines, "retrieving current status"

Welcome to the forums, driven to do constructiveness, Procyrus.

Maybe the core client is not running, boinc.exe on Windows? On first install a boot is required to configure the limited boinc accounts.

No IP limits I've heard of.

Anyway, here a few past threads discussing "stuck in retrieving current status"

http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dev/forum_thread.php?id=5454
http://128.32.18.189/dev/forum_thread.php?id=5855
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=65777

Let us know if any of those threads provided the pointer to the fix and what it was that got it solved for you.

confused Re: For those running mutliple machines, "retrieving current status"

Ive searched through the forums as much as I could for now and reviewed the links you provided me Seke, thank you. However I rebooted several times, uninstalled, reinstalled, and am still getting the "retrieving current status" message.

I have no logs to post, because this is the initial setup. It is Windows 7, no software compatability issues, IBM Athlon X2. The other 4 machines are IBM,..... Athlon and Intel. All have Windows 7, one has XP.

On a side note, this was the LAST machine I setup, and each setup was a fresh download from the website. Everything is setup as default like my other machines.

Im stuck on this one.

Re: For those running mutliple machines, "retrieving current status"

As you've ascertained that the boinc.exe core service is running, you can as a recent case on these forums proved, use boinccmd from a terminal window to request status information and attach WCG to the client. Then try remote connecting with one of your other machines BOINC Manager' (Select Computer > IP plus password in the gui_auth_rpc.cfg file).

Let us know

Also, it would help to know if you are using the client provided by WCG or if you downloaded it directly brom Berkeley. Some people have found random annoyances like this from WCG's version but not with Berkeley's. Just something to try. Also, it would help to know what version of BOINC you installed and on what OS.

Re: For those running mutliple machines, "retrieving current status"

All the Boinc software I installed on my machines is the latest version, as I have only been a member for 2 days and downloaded the software from the WCG website.

I followed Coleslaws suggestion after failing to remotely connect to my other machine. So I installed BOINC from Berkleys website...and behold..it works! Thank you both for your time and advice. I still wonder why it was one out of 5 machines that did this..thanks again.

Re: For those running mutliple machines, "retrieving current status"

That is the big question. WCG's branded version doesn't fail on all systems. Just the random one. Last I heard, they were looking into it. You may want to post your system specs including exact OS type and version. That may give the techs a better idea on what to look for. I for one have never installed WCG's branded version, so have only picked this info. up from reading other users problems.

Yes - please provide this information - it will be helpful. Our installer only has minor differences from the Berkeley version mostly around including branding for World Community Grid instead of BOINC.

Also - please let us know if you have previously installed World Community Grid or BOINC and were simply doing an upgrade.

thanks,
Kevin
