I did a search 1st with no luck but is there any way to remove old inactive team members?

Would you like your past contributions not to show to a team when you're no longer active, or dormant? This is one of the reasons why at WCG this is not possible.
There is I think a topic in either Help or the Start Here forum index on team membership if you'd like to read more. Happy crunching, and thank you for contributing to World Community Grid. --//-- |

What happens when they become disenchanted with the team and want to disassociate themselves with a team?
For example, if a team becomes political, takes a religous stance against something or even changes the team name to something offensive (even a football team they don't like). There needs to be a process where people can withdraw fully from a team; have their name removed and disassociated, without the need for legal intervention. |

What you propose has not been heard of before at WCG . Or, you change or quit team in the My Profile, which then will show as "retired", being a statement too. Legal intervention... there's some serious disgruntlement then for something one volunteered to contribute to.
So, let's keep perspective... WCG admin is surely having ways to hide the record if it ever would get that serious... contact support for facilitation. Happy Crunching, and it's TGIF at that ;-) |

I'd suggest skgiven's reference to legal action is more likely related to trying to deal with petty officialdom. You'd be well aware that given a few minor rules to enforce, some people will create an empire which actually requires a court order to overcome. These sad people will invent any number of far-fetched reasons to "prove" that they are acting appropriately.
There is difficulty in removing 'inactive' team members. If the member moves to another team then the record is marked 'retired' but what about those who simply stop crunching? It's not possible to FORCE people to declare WHY they're no longer active. They may simply have taken an interest in other projects, or they may simply be away for a while. A friend of mine has just spent over 3 months away. Fortunately, I 'babysat' his cruncher, so it wasn't idle - but it could have been off for that period. You can't just place an arbitrary 'inactive' time - even a year or more. Suppose the cruncher is no longer in the land of the living? Should their contribution be no longer recognised? I haven't got a solution, and I suspect that this clutter is something you just have to get used to. |

If a member in writing, requests to be withdrawn from a given Teams history, on the basis that he does not want to be associated with that team anymore, then WCG should have a specific procedure to be applied in that case, to fulfill this request if legitimate.
----------------------------------------To solve the point issue, here is my suggestion: Each team should at creation have an "anonymous" account. This anonymous account is hidden from the view of the members, but is added to the teams total. When a member requests to be dissociated from a given team, and if WCG agrees with the request then his points in the team should be transferred to that account. The team does not loose the points, but the member is definitively erased for the team list. And if there are several members that happen to be erased, then their points add up in that anonymous account. I consider that as long as WCG does not decide to completely cancel a Team, then the points do belong to the team. That member when he participated, he volounteered to add his points to the teams total. So these points have been acquired by the team in a perfectly "legal" way. If there is a change later on in a membe'rs point of view fine. He should be able to cancel completely his participation to the team but not withdraw the points. ![]() |
