Re: Reduced HFCC project priority

TimAndHedy, you don't have to modify your settings. WCG got it all under control.

I just wanted to make sure that if there was not a real issue that could kill all flow of HFCC units.

I have the options of redirecting if necessary but there may be others that only crunch HFCC that may not know what is going on and run dry.

Re: Reduced HFCC project priority

TimAndHedy, if you read Seippel's post again, you will see that the changes WCG has made shouldn't affect people who crunch only HFCC. WCG has only reduced how many are in the feeder at a time, which constantly gets replenish as long as WCG has work available.

Due to an outage of one of the Chiba server's we've reduced the feeder priority for HFCC to prevent a backlog of results. Users with only HFCC selected should be able to continue to get HFCC work units, but users with multiple projects selected will see a reduction in the number of HFCC work units downloaded.

Re: Reduced HFCC project priority

Does anybody know how long the Chiba server will be down? Days? Weeks?

It is expected to be down through Jan 31st. It's possible it could be longer depending on how smoothly things go, but it's unlikely to be sooner than that.

How critical is the need for the slow down? I can reduce my output if necessary but would prefer not to.

This particular change was made because we are unable to send the results to the researchers which causes a backlog of results on WCG servers and uses a great deal of storage (they aren't moved to long term storage until they have been sent to the researchers).

WCG downloads and maintains a buffer of work units to send out before we would need to download additional work units from Chiba. This buffer is currently in no danger of running low.

seippel, I was wondering what kind of hardware do you have for storage units and what type of capacity per unit. I know it is out of topic here but just for the info. smile

We have several different IBM storage systems in place. On the work unit build server we use IBM DS series storage with terrabytes of storage. On the BOINC servers we use primarily GPFS on an IBM SAN storage which is also accessible on the work unit build server.
