I disagree with your statement about no more problems then cpu's and obviously disagree with you claiming my previous statement was not true. You are entitled to an opionion, but your experience of cycling cards before their life cycle is far from proving my statements wrong.

OC'ing contributes to a lot of problems. ( I never OC ) If you don't OC than stating that OC'ing causes problems doesn't carry much weight.

Sure it does. I keep well informed like many others here. I don't have to be the one to discover something to state that it is there. I have never seen Pluto, but there is plenty of evidence to show it exists.

My appology for raising your hackles coleslaw. ![]() Years ago people thought crunching would burn out their PC too and no doubt some did. There was much buzz about that then. If you stay within decent parameters, it is not true for GPU's any more than it was for CPU's then. Beside, cards more than two years old are boat ancors and door stops for crunching purposes anyway. The technology is rapidly changing and recent cards are built very well. Peace. ![]() PS Hi Nano! ![]() ![]() |

[OT] Mark, I just built a new crunching machine with an AMD 610e chip. What do you get for BOINC benchmarks on yours? I don't think mine is running quite as fast as it should, although it's certainly cranking out those WUs while running very cool and low-power as hoped.[/OT] kateiacy, I spent the last few days dealing with new/defective Corsair DDR3 memory on 2 new motherboard setups. Now that things seem to be running correctly with Patriot memory on both ASUS motherboards, I get the following results: AMD 610e 2402 MIPS Whetstone 5172 MIPS Dhrystone per each of the 4 CPU's in the chip As far as power efficiency- 62 watts at idle (cool&quiet not installed yet) 98 watts at 100% load crunching on all 4 processors How does that compare with what you are seeing? Very interesting indeed. I'm seeing 1900 and something for Whetstone (am not at home right now so can't look up the exact number) -- with Corsair DDR3 and an Asus board. I'd figured the memory was my problem as the CPU is showing the full 2600 clock speed but the memory is showing as just 1066; just haven't had time yet to try to do anything about it. OK, now I know that's the angle to pursue. Thanks!

Powered by the sun from my rooftop PV system that provides over 100% of my household electrical needs. This phrase has risen my interest. Do I understand that ALL your electrical needs of your house are covered by solar panels. Coud you please tell us how much energy we are talking in Watts. What happens at night or when the sky is cloudy. ![]() ![]() |

Do I understand that ALL your electrical needs of your house are covered by solar panels. Could you please tell us how much energy we are talking in Watts. What happens at night or when the sky is cloudy. ![]() short answer.....yes! details.... 8.2KW photo electric system via 36 of 230 watt Sunpower panels on house & garage. Installed spring 2010. My average annual household electrical usage is now down to about 8300 KWH. Lots of effort went into building household energy efficiency, like swapping out old Intels for AMD 610e CPU's! . Per design, the annual output of the PV system should be about 15% above household consumption. Here in NY we have net metering with LIPA, the power company. I give power to my house and the grid during the day, use power from the grid at night. At the end of the month I am charged the net consumption. Most months I give more than I take so the bill is around $5.50 basic hookup charge. The excess generated by me goes into an energy bank account. At the end of my generating year (for me, each spring) I get a check for any surplus in the energy bank. Calculations indicate I should get a check for $100. to $200. Simple payback on the system is about 6 years for me. This past summer was exceptionally hot with much AC use. It was gratifying to see that even in July and August I produced more than I consumed. |

If you don't mind me asking, what was the initial up front costs on such a system?

It varies by state tax credits and power company rebate levels. Also the price of panels is slowly going down every 6 months
use the interactive PV constructor page at www.LIPower.org as of 9 months ago $52k total cost at $6.3 per watt $12k after power company rebate, state and local tax credits. ~6 year payback |
