Can this project be left to run unattended ?
----------------------------------------Could I ask the contributors to this project if they have to constantly "manage" this project ? I really don't have the time to constantly check on WCG Wu's to see how the clients are progressing. All the other projects (including DDDT2 !) appear to run quite happily unattended for weeks at a time (which is probably why I'm only at Gold on DDDT" as I don't have time "manage this when the Wu's come out). I can get to look at these about 1 per week, but a check once every two weeks is about what I can realistically manage. One last question if I may. Is an ADSL line with 2132kbps down and 328kbps up, going to be OK to run this project ? I can make this bandwidth exclusive for WCG apps (just not for CEP2) ? Thanks for your help . . . . . . and . . . . To all here, Crunchers, Admins, Advisers, Techs, Project Scientists . . . . . . . Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy and Prosperous New Year. Cheers now Bob ![]() |

Merry Christmas to you Bob (and everyone else),
----------------------------------------The whole intent of WCG is to allow everything to run unattended. More than half the users just set it and forget it. And do not monitor at all. No post to any of these forums. This is one project that is no different than the rest. At the default settings, only one of CEP2 task will be on your system at a time and runs by itself. This is what happens on my laptop. If you want to contribute to this project you need to make sure you meet the posted requirements. I will leave it to someone else to determine if upload speed will work - I think it should. [Edit 1 times, last edit by bieberj at Dec 26, 2010 5:28:53 PM] |

Thanks for the Christmas wishes and the same to you and yours!
----------------------------------------For this project especially with it's sporadic releases of new work, I can heartily recommend BoincTasks which lets you oversee work progress and manipulate settings etc all from one machine. This makes it much easier than having to jump ffrom one machinne to another and can greatly reduce the amount of time you spend overseeing work progress etc. As for your question, I am successfully running this project on eight cores per machine. The only downside is that it isn't always possible to guarantee that there will be enough work availble on every machine, so it is wise to have a second application nominated to fill in the 'lean times'. With a small cache and a backup application nominated, you should find that this is no different to any of the other applications. I hope this helps ;) ![]() Crunching in memory of my Mum PEGGY, cousin ROPPA and Aunt AUDREY. |

Thank you bieberj and coolstream, for the reassurance and handy information, much appreciated.
----------------------------------------I'll set this project up in the near future, then sit back and let CEP2 do its thing ![]() ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by rwremote at Dec 25, 2010 4:10:14 PM] |

Thanks for the confirmation Sgt. Joe.
----------------------------------------I've just now set it up, and one of the boxes has downloaded a CEP2 WU ! Looks like I'm there. Thanks again. ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by rwremote at Dec 25, 2010 10:03:22 PM] |

Aside from what others have said, I am running CEP2 with no restrictions and have enough work downloaded for a 2 day cache and always have 2 CEP tasks running at the same time. I have no problems with downloads or uploads. I don't have any problems with the work waiting to run. My machine is a Lenovo T61p ThinkPad with 3 GB RAM and 90 GB HDD.

For anyone with lesser systems/bandwidth, I would suggest you simply select to crunch another WCG Project as well - I usually crunch between 2 and 4 different WCG projects on any system.
