Recent Cyber Attacks

THIS IS NOT A THREAD TO DISCUSS WIKILEAKS, HACK-TIVISM OR RELATED ISSUES
Just a heads up that I have noticed a noticeable increase in the number of DDOS attempts, port scans, etc. in my firewall and virus program logs. Also, I have several quarantined emails requesting I visit sites to “volunteer” bandwidth for hack-tivism.
I just wanted to mention that this may be a good time for people to keep a closer eye on your logs and at least think about the security levels you have chosen. This may be even more important if you use some of the basic, free virus systems.
As always ... think before opening a strange email.

Re: Recent Cyber Attacks

Yup, my router mails me about 3 times a day about 63.245.209.92... (I know who they are) has been trying to get in, port after port. Always the same IP from somewhere in-between Houston and Austin... and yes got one of those "donate bandwidths" too.

Re: Recent Cyber Attacks

I've been getting router alerts recently also. My only currently running Windows machine (XP) has been giving me firewall alerts (Love my old Sygate) that someone has been port scanning. I did a tracert but right off hand I can't remember exactly where it came from but it was the US. Thankfully I never have to worry about infected or suspicious e-mails. Mailwasher takes care of that.
Good topic for discussion DM.

Re: Recent Cyber Attacks

Interesting.

I have been getting a lot of port scans in just the last 2 hours. I'm not looking farther back since everything is bouncing, as far as I can tell.

Re: Recent Cyber Attacks

Looking at today's activity:

laughing biggrin laughing I have not been probed this much since the night the UFO's landed and the space aliens abducted me in my sleep. laughing biggrin laughing

I am certainly no expert in these things but "recent events" seem to be developing in the form of:

email: looking for volunteers (and victims)
port scans: looking for unlocked doors

We certainly do live in "interesting times". peace

[rant]What really ticks me off is that the ISPs can identify the zombiies and boot them off the network until the owners clean them up but they're just too "lazy" (aka greedy) to bother.[/rant].

Re: Recent Cyber Attacks

I don't think so Rej. It's just I did not open this thread for that purpose but to report unusual activity. If you wish to dicuss it, I see no reason you can't open a thread about it. peace
