Thanks Sport. Your help and help by proxy gave a huge boost during the Base Campers trip enabling us to pass up the other branches of service.
It seems to have lit a fire under the Navy's rear ends. ![]() We are keeping the numbers high enough so that they can't catch us at the moment. No matter what, the science is getting a great boost when we all work this hard at it. pramo, no problem, your help is appreciated no matter when it happens. Looks like your cores are producing quite well. ![]() |

Here are the latest numbers for the Air Force Team.
We are working a plethora of projects at the moment. We have gotten a few of our cores and the cores of visiting supporters working WCG to keep our numbers up for this continuing challenge. ![]() |

I have the radio tuned in but we are not quite ready to start screaming mayday yet.
![]() Trying to keep the momentum you all started going. I know that you and Sport both are off having fun in other areas and we don't want to monopolize your time too much. ![]() |

Got the Ruby globe! Now it's going to be a long wait for another color change.

Team Air Force at 190th place. I think we started in the high 200's in December so we have made alot of progress in a short time.

Thanks Parmesian. Going to take me a while to get that pretty blue orb that you sport on your sig.
The team is in 189th place at the moment and still climbing thanks to help from everyone. Meanwhile I am trying to figure out the best bits and parts to buy to put together a decent gaming/crunch machine. Thinking 6 core like hypernova was sporting and putting a couple of GPU's in crossfire to boost the numbers. ![]() |

Thinking 6 core like hypernova was sporting and putting a couple of GPU's in crossfire to boost the numbers. ![]() Top rig: 1) Big tower aluminum case to have lots of space for airflow. Very important to have one or two 120 mm fans on top that extract hot air from the top of the rig. Same for one bottom fan to pull cold air from under the rig. Choose also a tower that allows mounting of the PSU on the floor of the case, so that it will pull cold air from under the case. In this way you can put easily a 1200 Watts PSU without heating too much the inside of the casing. 2) A 1200 Watt PSU Gold class for maximum efficiency. 3) Asus Rampage Extreme III motherboard, allows for excellent overclocking stability of the 980X CPU. Careful this motherboard to run need a PSU that has two 12V connectors for the motherboard. 4) Intel i7 980X CPU. Can be easily overclocked to 4.3 Ghz. 5) CPU cooler either a top air cooler like Noctua NHD14 or a water cooling system. The Corsair H70 is excellent but you can do even better with an external heat exchange unit. 6) DDDR3 RAM, 6GB at 2133 MHz or more. The Asus Rampage will easily support it. 7) A Crucial 300 SSD disk (256 GB) Sata 3 connection to the board. 8) Wait another month and you will have the opportunity to get two Nvidia GTX 590 GPU boards. Each will have dual GPU's of the 580 category. It means that with two boards you have 4 top Geforce GPUs or 2048 cores in all. A 1200W PSU can handle all the necessary power. Such a machine is a killer on Boinc in terms of points. But if you want a superkiller than go for 4 GTX590 GPU Boards. If you do that you have the monster with 8 580 class GPU or 4096 cores. But then be careful with PSU (1500 Watts) and cooling inside the casing, it must be really good. With that your wallet and your banker will probably both have passed out, but you will be the proud owner of a personal supercomputer capable in theory of over 10 Tflops. ![]() ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Hypernova at Feb 5, 2011 8:00:19 AM] |
