I want to give a testimonial to how easy a Linux install is.
----------------------------------------About three weeks ago, I dual booted my Win7 laptop (Celeron 2.2, nothing special) with Ubuntu with a cd. Getting the iso cd to burn correctly took some trial and error because I was completely new to all this. Fortunately, there are gazillions of Q and A pages all over the place. Whenever I had a problem, I could Google about three different possible solutions. But once I did it, it all made sense and I felt like an expert! So I dual-booted my netbook (XP) as well! Then I dual-booted my Mom's computer. As for residing in Linux-land, I am still lost but I feel secure enough that whenever I have a question, I can Google an answer in seconds. Edit: Linux on my laptop is WAY more efficient with the battery than Win7! I mean, 2 times and still going... [Edit 1 times, last edit by GTCola2010 at Nov 25, 2010 4:52:25 AM] |

Brink
---------------------------------------- very strange If I ever get the chance I will take a trip to the Eye of Quebec It's a big old World we live on Dave mmm they have to be. The Dam and the area around is pretty much Man made but as well as the rectangular pond in South Dakota there's more evidence further North and the first 6 of the most Southerly cluster have central islands caused by a post impact uplift. A test Bomb drop? Dynamite Blasting with the Dam? Or a meteorite breaking up pre impact? Let me know brinktastee - now I have to know what you have found! ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by David Autumns at Nov 24, 2010 6:21:04 PM] |

Please give Xubuntu a whirl The linux fans are going to hate me for this but it's like Windows, Mac and Linux in a great Spock mind-meld ![]() No, we're all good as long as it ends with "ubuntu". Just kidding, I'd also try other versions if I could. Personally I love Ubuntu as it seems to be very reliable, and feels and looks different than W7 (which I have in dualboot to be able to play games). Linux Mint might be worth to try too. As you're not yet too familiar with linux, and if you have an extra computer, you could try them all and report back to us which one did you liked the best ![]() edit. By the way, when I woke up this morning, I didn't know this about ubuntu.
to infinity and beyond

Arrgghh Jimmy Wales is still asking for my cash
---------------------------------------- mikaok it's a good idea the try them all and report back plan It's just the "Should I abandon that 17 hour old clean energy project wu now or wait until it's finished" problem It's not really green using electricity to find out how we might produce it more efficiently from the Sun.....if I abandon it without anyone knowing the result !!! Maybe I'll turn off the Hyperthreading on my Atom. It will make the decision so much the easier Linux Mint you say......Maybe in 11 hours and 43 mins This number crunching bug is an addiction ![]() |
