I have had one of my computers crash multiple times while running the A.24 workunits. It has sucessfully completed an A.25 & A.26 workunit and workunits for other projects. The computer has crash running both windows and linux workunits.
Does anyone have ideas or suggestions about why those workunits crash my system. |

Welcome idlorj. It would be helpful to have all of your system info (BOINC version, OS, CPU, MEM, ect).

I posted this over in the BETA section, but I had similar issues. Here is what I already posted:
----------------------------------------I don't know about this 3rd release, but on the last two and the current WU's for CEP2 both would shut my Dell Studio 1735 down completely at random times. No other project outside of WCG and no other WCG project causes this whatsoever. It does not matter if I run 1 WU or 2 on this Dual Core, it still crashes the system. I can complete the WU's with several reboots though. It also didn't matter if I ran the CEP2 units in a virtual machine running a different OS on this machine. I even did a full system reload and got the same results. Dell Studio 1735, Core 2 Duo, 4GB Ram, Windows Vista Ultimate X64, Boinc 6.10.58, all windows updates Virtual Machine on same system ran XP Home SP3 w/ Boinc 6.10.58, all windows updates Western Digital DataLifeguard tested the hard drive as operating fine. This seems to be the only machine in my small farm that has seen this problem. Currently I have CEP2 turned off on the profile this laptop uses to avoid further complications. Edit: I will note that back when the Linux version was first released, they ran on this same machine under an Ubuntu Virtual Machine OK, but I have not tested that again since the Windows release. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I had similar problems on Linux and Windows 7.
----------------------------------------Problem resolved by replacing RAM. Details here: https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/...ead,29882_offset,0#295939

My Compaq laptop that had troubles was fixed with a BOINC client update. Since then, no troubles. The Dell Studio 17 on the other hand crashes on every CEP2 WU it attempts. The weird thing is no other project causes problems on the system, so I'm not swapping ram for this project just to experiment.

I have (2) I7's Quads with HT (Win7 64) that had problems when running 8 concurrent CEP2 Betas from the last batch. The first would BSOD every few minutes and the second would error out every WU with exit code 195 (0xc3) RC = 0xc000001d. Once I limited then to no more than 5 concurrent each the problems stopped. I was able to run C4CW and FAAH with them on the remaining threads.
----------------------------------------After the Betas I switched them back to native Ubuntu and limited the number of CEP2 using the profile and haven't had any problems since. I ran MemTest, HDD and graphics diagonistics on both and didn't flag anything. The devices have been rock solid for over a year on everything, including the previous Win CEP2 Betas, except those Betas from the last batch. It would seem that the heavy IO trigged something but am at a loss understanding what or how to find it. Bill P
