biggrin Re: Research Log: Updates from the Harvard Team

Something light for the weekend:
http://xkcd.com/303/

That's funny. Our gaggle of geeks use the excuse. Im installing network patches when they screw off .

They fairly recently did an office upgrade for us, consequently our desks are a bit smaller. At our morning meeting, one of the 'computer team' was whining about the smaller square footage he had to work on.

I asked, well gee, how many square feet does a network patch take up? Yah, I knew fully what was coming next, I couldn't help myself...

Temper tantrums can be amusing...

A sign of age is if you can remember when a network patch was measured in linear feet.

Re: Research Log: Updates from the Harvard Team

Prof. Guilia Galli from UC Davis visited Boston last week to give a talk as part of the shared Harvard/MIT/BU theoretical chemistry seminar series. Her presentation was titled ‘Understanding and predicting materials for energy: Insight from quantum simulations’. We had very interesting conversations with her and very much enjoyed having her with us.

Re: Research Log: Updates from the Harvard Team

We had to do some troubleshooting on Jabba over the last couple of days because it was acting up a bit. Roberto with both hands in the cable compartment looked like a scene from ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ :). Low and behold it turned out to only be a loose connection on one of the PCI cards. It’s always the last thing one expects...

It nearly went unnoticed, but we recently cracked the 4 million results and 3.5 billion points mark. Wohoo, keep it rolling everybody!

Re: Research Log: Updates from the Harvard Team

We had a very interesting meeting with Dr. Ingveld from BASF last week. He is a computational polymer scientist in the BASF R&D division in Ludwigshafen, Germany and it was great to get feedback from a researcher in the industry. BASF and other big chemical companies have recently stated to pay attention to the field of plastic solar cells which definitely makes for an exciting development.

Re: Research Log: Updates from the Harvard Team

Alan was invited to the Equinox Energy Summit. A great opportunity to talk about the Clean Energy Project (and perhaps attract a few new crunchers biggrin ).
