how big is the one-time download ?

I have been trying to download first the big download (the one which says 100.04 MB) and then it downloads till 120 MB or something and then kinda stops.

Then if I give a retry now option then again it starts downloading from 66/67 MB, Does anybody have an idea as to how big the file would be.

This is the name of the file. wcgrid_cep2_qchem_6.19_i686_pc_linux_gnu

All observations and comments welcome.

Qchem 6.19 for Linux has multiple files, but since I am not running Linux, I do not know about the downloads. The new Windows and MAC version 6.35 manages to eliminate one of the files. Eventually Linux will be upgraded to the same standard.

Re: how big is the one-time download ?

Then is there a way to checkpoint the downloads so that next time it will start from that point onwards ?

If you have multiple computers and already has this file, you can just copy this file and restart boinc. Boinc will skip the download once you have restarted it.

It is possible, but this would mean WCG must either re-configure their download-server (something they likely won't do since this means they can't pre-compress all download-files and get most of them to auto-expand on client during download), or, they can setup a separate download-server for just the CEP2-application-files (something that again is fairly unlikely they'll do...)

During the past 4 months of testing in different configurations to find the optimum and again yesterday making a change and a project reset, I found that the big zips would not download complete, hang and start again (but stuck at 100% complete. The remedy is to set the download bandwidth limit temporarily to 48K or 64K. Think the client continuously tries to throttle up speed and then falls over its own feat. Also I incremented the cc_config.xml to download 3 files at a time rather than 2, so the small files of the other sciences could still come in. This limit only works on the zip files nicely trickling at the 48-64K bandwidth limit. The gz files kept rolling in and observed speeds up to 1560 KBps (before compression). After, set the local pref download limit back to zero = no limit.

Interesting was that the CEP2 one-time download app files looked to be gaged and came 1 by 1, though my config is 3 concurrent.

Edit: added emphasis on the most important bits!

Hey Sekerob

Wowee, baby steps here please. That just went completely off the head.

Lemme tell the situation at my end. The file wcgrid_cep2_qchem_6.19_i686_pc_linux_gnu says 100 MB and your listing does say something similar.

https://encrypted.google.com/search?hl=en&...aql=&oq=&gs_rfai=

Although I had wished you had given the listing of the file in a more readable form or am I reading this wrong ?

Sekerob IIRC there is a $ ls -h switch which would make it more readable as well.

Also where are all these files put up, somewhere in /etc or where. This is a ubuntu stock install.

Coming back to your advise, how do I throttle the download speeds in the client ? I'm right now on the windows side of things so here its easy, its Preferences > Network Usage and there one can do that. The thing is atm I've got a USB wireless connection where the speed itself is pathetic, hovering around ~20-25 KB/s . I'm hoping to get ADSL by the end of this week or latest next week .

As for your other suggestion, no such luck just have one system :P (in humor)

Right, same here as well.

Re: how big is the one-time download ?

So I am guessing there is no other option, just have to wait for better bandwidth and try again. I am/was hoping that the client BOINC can do segmented and torrent-type downloading and similar for WCG as well.

Any thoughts you can share on that Sekerob ?

Good luck!
