Switching from the 32-bit client to 64-bit client

Switching from the 32-bit client to 64-bit client. Will I lose the WUs currently being processed? Running Win 7 64-bit.

Re: Switching from the 32-bit client to 64-bit client

You mean Boinc Manager 32 bits to Boinc Manager 64 bit.
If yes then the answer is no. You will loose nothing.

First download the Boinc manager 64 bit version available on Boinc website.
Then exit the 32 bit Boinc manager in the middle of what it was doing.
Then go in the control panel, programs list, and deinstall it using the Windows deinstall function.
Do not shutdown or restart Win 7. I am not sure what would be the effect.
Execute the 64 bit Boinc Manager file you just downloded, to have it installed. It will start and continue just were the old version stopped.

This is the way I do and never had any problem. smile

Re: Switching from the 32-bit client to 64-bit client

Careful there. Do this offline!!!!! Sometime switching 32 to 64 bit client looses the ''where is that data_dir" info **. Reconnect to the intertube when done and are satisfied the upgrade worked to satisfaction.

AND, with the newest clients you don't need a 64 bit client to crunch 64 bit. The 32 bit client will also fetch the 64 bit science app if it's available. The client is manager... it does not crunch!

Edit: ** Use the installer advanced option and navigate to the old data_dir if it does go lost. See Screenshot FAQ for how to: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,28971

Re: Switching from the 32-bit client to 64-bit client

Where can I find the Windows 64bit version of Boinc?

In the following page (http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/reg/ms/viewDownloadAgain.do#) I can see only the 32bit version...

...maybe with 64bit versione I will solve some problem with upload/download
