Re: A question for Dataman

It appears Mr. Neuman had some help escaping from the WCG.

The odds in Vegas are 12-1 that he will finds his UD credits. Are you looking for yours?

How could the odds possibly be anything other than 7-1? (O.k., maybe 7**2 to 1 )

What, me worry? Yes!
I worry I will never get my missing UD credits.

Send Alfred E. out to look for them. biggrin

Press Release

October 15, 2010
Associated World News Story
Dateline - Armonk, New York USA.

Late October 13, 2010 The World Community Grid (“WCG”) experienced
an outage due to a fatal error with their BOINC filesystem. It has been
reported this caused untold anxiety and frustration among the loyal and
dedicated volunteers who “crunch” various “work units” on behalf of
various humanitarian research projects. This “virtual super computer”
was brought down to its knees from late October 13 through late
October 14. Years of computational time was lost to various research
projects during this sudden and unexpected outage, however dedicated
and hard working World Community Grid personnel were able to resume
operations during the night of October 14, 2010.

Upon investigation, it has been rumored that video and audio
surveillance at a WCG secret undisclosed location captured an
apparent perpetrator who may be responsbile. A picture of this
person has been identified as Mr. Alfred E. Neuman.

Mr. Neuman, a perpetual write in candidate for the President of the
United States, appears to have been recorded. It has been rumored that
audio recordings at the site have him mumbling “I have got to find
those lost UD credits! Now...where are they? They must be here
somewhere...Ah! I think they are here...OOOHHHH NOOOO...

Whereupon the World Community Grid BOINC file system became
corrupted, and “crashing” this virtual super computer. No uploads or
downloads of “work units” were possible. Mr. Neuman never found those
lost UD credits.

Mr. Neuman is now a “person of interest” and anyone with knowledge of
his whereabouts should contact the World Community Grid. Indications
are that Mr. Neuman has been described as misguided and does not
pose any physical threat. If anything, he will tell you “What? Me worry?”

Re: A question for Dataman

It was clear that the UD Credits were nowhere to be found on Earth. Since the first disappearance of the UD credits, there has been a very intense research going on, through a major scientific program the UDCRSP (UD Credits Recovery Science Program). NASA was involved from early stages and after some years of frantic search (we thank SETI for help) a faint UD signal was received by ALMA the latest powerful array of radiotelescopes

Immediately the largest earth based telescopes were involved in trying to pinpoint where the signal was coming from. Keck telescope

and the ESO four telescopes on cerro Paranal,

Hubble was not available due to repair, but with a good precision the UD signal was confirmed on

MARS.
Immediately Mars express was committed to very high resolution surface analysis and a gravitational anomaly with an optical glittering signal was detected.

NASA launched immediately one of its biggest recovery mission after Apollo XIII, the UD CREDIT RECOVERY MISSION that has been publicly disguised under the Mars Rover mission. Here is a secret description of the original Spirit Rover

Its very similar twin, is Opportunit,y which is on a different public mission and runs for cover to Spirit.
The rovers were sent as quickly as possible on an urgent mission disguised as trying to find water on Mars.

Really who cares about water here at WCG. Only UD Credits are of interest to us. The trip was fast and Spirit landed first and was immediately sent for search.

It had to roam the planet for long distances.

To avoid any unwanted discovery of the real mission objectives the landing was far away from the target.
After months of an excruciatingly slow and difficult search (every place had to be drilled and dug to check) and as desperation was mounting, the very high resolution optical 3d cameras detected an object displayed here in false colours to enhance the details

After some very complex video analysis YESSSS!!. Victory !!!

Spirit had found the missing UD Credits in a large chest. The chest seemed open and after a week of analysis several Nasa image pattern recognition experts confirmed these were sound gold UD credits.
Spirit was sent in that direction on very difficult terrain. The ground was very sandy and things went very slowly. Spirit approached a few meters from the chest

No doubt in this false color enhanced image we have an excellent view of the finally found UD Credits.
But when Nasa mission control tried to have the rover move near the chest to use its special robotic arm designed for recovering the UD Credits, Spirit remained stuck in the sand.

They tried for days and weeks to unstuck it but no way. Spirit was definitively glued there just a few meters from its objective. The whole control center in Huston was in utter despair.

Nasa had to admit that Spirit is lost. But the mission is still a success. UD Credits have been confirmed and found. For recovery Nasa and ESA have teamed for a new recovery mission and are designing a much larger and better rover.

It will be sent under cover of the upcoming ExoMars mission.
Stay tuned we will keep you updated. wink

Re: A question for Dataman

Excellent!!! All of you are very creative. applause

Tell me though. How do we get the UD credits back when WCG has them guarded by thousands of these ...

We could be in for a long fight.
