Re: Is anyone reviewing the data?

Hello

I felt like sharing the good hope that ties us all together and that I belong to a FightAIDS@home team that's not US related, but Brazilian, and they are highly respected here as a medical research group.

Thanks.

Re: Is anyone reviewing the data?

Was it when FA@H was hosted at WCG or before that? It ran somewhere else under something like Entropy.

Judging from the dates of the first FA@H forum posts at WCG (around Nov 2005, mostly about "the new project"), the project was probably being hosted somewhere else when HairlossTalk.com saw that pile of paper.

Re: Is anyone reviewing the data?

Hi,

I understood that you were speaking about 2004. I asked the people in the lab who were here at that time, and I posted what they told me. Since you haven't revealed your name, it's a bit hard to track down exactly what happened. However, now that you mentioned that "male who's name I forget with a british accent," it will be easier to learn what happened. I e-mailed Dr. Garrett Morris (the only British male in the lab in 2004). When I hear his response, I'll let you all know his explanation.

As you stated, the most important thing is that the data are being analyzed.

Thank you all for helping us advance our research,
Alex L. Perryman, Ph.D.

PS--Dataman, you are most welcome.

Re: Is anyone reviewing the data?

HairlossTalk.com, you can check project website and read about 33 experiments and their results. Of course all this was possible only by reviewing the data! Also i doubt scientists print out all data into hard copies and review. It is just zillion times slower than query the database.

Alex, please keep up the great work you do!!

Two Compounds Discovered that Pave the Way for New Class of AIDS Drug

La Jolla, Calif. - 02 Mar 2010: A team of researchers at the renowned Scripps Research Institute has discovered two new compounds that prove the existence of new binding sites on HIV protease. Associate Professor C. David Stout, senior author of the study, explained “These results open the door to a whole new approach to drug design against HIV protease,” which is an enzyme used by HIV to create new, infectious viral particles.

Utilizing computing power from 1.5 million devices networked through IBM’s World Community Grid, the new sites on the HIV protease are being used as docking targets for virtual screening experiments, in order to guide the development of these chemical compounds into a new class of potent HIV inhibitors. Using the massive computational resources of the World Community Grid, the FightAIDS@Home team has already docked over 500,000 compounds against these newly characterized binding sites.

This project has a record of results. The scientists should not need to spend their time defending themselves. While I am sure the OP is sincere and just missed some details in his exhaustive search for answers to his obvious humanitarian concerns I think this thread is unnecessary.

Cheers!
