Hi spockbob,
----------------------------------------just push "add project" button and add WCG. You don't have to do other installations. WCG will run properly with your old BOINC client as well.

If WCG killed BOINC, a lot of us would be very unhappy. Please look elsewhere for the solution to the problem.

Unfortunately spockbob, you don't give us much informattion to go on so as to be in a position to help you.
----------------------------------------What OS are you running, which version of BOINC did you attempt to install (and where did you get it from - the Download page?). Then, what kind of message(s) came up? You say that you've reinstalled from an old version - from this, I'm assuming that you're participating in other Distributed Computing projects, thus, which ones and have you had any issues with them in the past? As indicated above, WCG is simply yet another project which can be selected from within BOINC, and thus, I'm at a slight loss as to how you've ended up in a position where you've had to go and edit your registry (from which, I'm assuming that you're not a computer novice...). If you could provide a bit more information, I'm sure that someone will be able to help you out here - and also, if ever anyone has similar problems to yourself again, this will help them out as well... Go on, challenge us - we're a friendly bunch here ![]() ![]() |

I clicked on a link on the wcg website, which I thought was going to add wcg to boinc., not do an install. It tried to do an install, failed, and that is where Boinc was compromised, somewhere in the install, it uninstalled most of Boinc, then died. I am running Vista SP2 64 bit.

It sounds like you downloaded WCG's branded version of BOINC which is an older version. Just attach to the project from within the BOINC client. It should already be on the list within the program itself.

It would be helpful if the WCG webpage that people get to when they click "join" had the information that, if they were already running BOINC for other projects, they could just attach to WCG from within their BOINC manager. It is a little confusing to see only the BOINC download instructions when you click "join."

Project attaching is done 3 ways (soon a 4th from a different vantage point, not user influencible):
----------------------------------------- For new members automated when installing clean with the WCG kits of 6.2.28 and 6.10.58 for windows. - From the Attach to Projects menu if that option was not disabled in the cc_config.xml (some group/mass roll-outs disable because they only want to run WCG). - From BAM (BOINCStats Account Manager) e.g. but that only works if the host previously was once manually attached to WCG. I suppose one could set a webscript to run the boinccmd tool on a host to attach to WCG plugging name and the account key, of course only working when one is signed in and the host is not already attached to WCG. Seeing loads of pitfalls to include securities. edit: Let me visit this ''Join'' page to see what if can be clarified there for Existing Members. WCG is the one exception that does not allow ''joining'' as in on-the-fly becoming member and attach the host at the same time when already BOINCing. Suggestions of text and placement are welcome (to be posted ideally on the Suggestions/Feedback or Website support forums ;O)
