Cost of running the computer

The cost of running computer has come up recently, and I have recently
had issues with my power adapters, so I know some wattages.

Can anyone say what it means if my adapter is 90 watt, 130 watt, I have both.

I have 130 watt on a 3 year old Core 2 Duo, and 90 watt on the i5 and the brand new i7.

Re: Cost of running the computer

That rating is how many watts worth of computer can be run through them. Newer laptops are more efficient--lower wattage CPUs and HDs, so the power requirements for the transformers are lower.

Edit: As for how much it costs to run, that depends on how many watts it actually uses. You'll need to get a measuring device, like a Kill-a-watt or built-in software to know for sure.

In addition you will need to understand your local electricity rates. They do vary wildly by location and provider. Only with your actual usage and knowledge of your local rates (including in some places rates by time of day), can you determine the cost of running the computer(s). Note that in some places there are also usage based rates. That is the more that you use, the more expensive each Watt .. or conversly the less expensive each Watt. Often they make no rational sense.
