Windows 7 Professional. 32 Bit Version
Boinc Client 6.2.28 I have several workstations were the client install went fine with no problems. Other workstations... I'm receiving the following Error: Failed to create the 'boinc_master' account I'm logged in as the domain admin when installing the client. What could be causing this? What can I try next to be able to get the client on these machines? Thanks |

hi syslock,
----------------------------------------that boinc_master has to be created as it is used by BOINC as a sandbox account. You call it a workstation, but are doing this from a Domain_account. Not completely in with the jargon, but installation should be done by someone with admin rights. If these are domain controller you're going to fail using 6.2.28. Then revert to 5.10.45. Make sure to select protected mode execution aka service in the install screen and all users lest others are also accessing these systems, for it will cause the launch of the BOINC Manager GUI on sign in. edit: Here's some guidance in form of screenshots of the main install frames of different versions for Windows. http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,28971

I saw the post about the domain controller.
I'm not installing on the controller. Installing the client on user workstations only. When I log in, I'm logging in as administrator with full rights to the workstation. |

OK, well something is stopping you from creating these accounts on those workstations. It has to be service/protected mode for sure or you'll be running into the UAC wall. Try 5.10.45 anyhow, specifically installing to C:\ProgramData\BOINC (W7/Vista hate data writing to the program files structure), then if that works install 6.2.28 over it. The application is then split with the executables going to C:\Program Files\BOINC and the data_dir being set up to that same C:\ProgramData\BOINC. (or whatever location you chose the first time.
----------------------------------------When I want to install something, anything, I always right click on an installer in file explorer so the option is offered to install as admin (W7 and Vista). Even from my admin rights account.

Sure, here you go: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dl/wcg_boinc_5.10.45_windows_intelx86.exe
----------------------------------------Note for readers with W7-64 bit, the install of the 32 bit client versions (should) go to C:\Program Files (x86)\BOINC. The data_dir default location remains same.
