Hi, this topic has come up in connection with DDDT2 but I'm looking for a more general answer, about the distribution of work units proportionally across projects.
----------------------------------------I just opened my small wu floodgates again after running down my DDDT2 cache. Projects selected in addition to intermittent projects & betas are HCC and C4CW. I'm getting all HCC. I didn't expect to get much if any DDDT2 with any other projects selected, but I thought both these projects were a pretty steady flow. With only one host with 3 cores available, I can't rely on huge wu distribution to even things out. Hoping time will solve all, else I hae to keep fiddling with he profile to de/select projects. Bottom line question is, is there any predictability or rough equality to the amounts of wus coming out of feeders of each non-intermittent project? How does workflow work, in general? I didn't see this in the FAQ. I don't mean things like which project has how much redundancy, I found that. But please do point me to anything already posted that talks about this. Beyond short-term interests, I'm really curious about it, and I'm happy to move to a more relevant forum suggested by those who know more. Thanks [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Sep 15, 2010 12:55:51 AM] |

[B.S] sTrey, I don't think you'll get a definitive answer - as the techs are constantly balancing out the WU distribution depending on numerous events.
----------------------------------------Things which can affect the WU distribution, are such things as the size of WU (length as well as how big they are), storage, the needs of the scientists themselves, the limitations of WCG, and of course, as to whether there are WU's available. Another thing which may affect the distribution, is as to whether a project is ramping up/down etc. What I'd suggest, is to have a look at some of the excellent charts Sekerob pulls together - two of which are; 3. WCGQLK - Quick Look Last or Current Day Projection and 4. WCGSHR - Active Project Shares |

No, it's not in the FAQ's. Search posts by knreed, he explained the mechanics and why it works the way it works... probably some 6 months ago.
----------------------------------------Well, it proofed to be easy to find... Dec.2009: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/...28107&offset=0#260714

WCGSHR - Active Project Shares Thank you very much Sekerob for this very elegant and interesting figures. I did not know them; but I like them immediately. If the access for statistic purpose to single WUs would be possible, we could propose very interesting data mining and data visualization/representation projects to students. In engineering school and at the University (master degree curriculum), we are always looking for exciting and original project subjects. Cheers, Yves --- PS: BTW, I would like have better connector to get my member results than only cut and paste !!! (XML connectors would be welcome, as well as the ability to get more than 15 results per page !!! ...) |
