Re: Stand Up To Cancer

It may come as a shock, but money collectors see efforts as WCG being in competition.

TrustedDragon,
Please don't take this statement as an absolute one like "distributed computing is an enemy which must be defeated".

However, from the feedback we get from AFM which is organizing the French Telethon
and which is also funding the Decrypthon project (HCMD2) -
- they fear that people think "I am contributing to WCG, so I don't need to give money"
- since it is easy to compute from the previous year how much money they can collect per hour of TV program they are reluctant to divert any TV time to advertise Distributed Computing.

For me and many other French crunchers I know, it is certain that their fear is wrong, we crunch and we give money. Unfortunately I cannot guarantee that it would be true for everybody.

" being in competition"
I think that is part of the problem... instead of working together. everyone is trying to be the 1st to find a cure so their name/company can say "Look we are better cause we found the cure 1st!"

If you want to see some real competition read Knockout by Suzanne Somers---The treatments they DONT want you to know about---

Re: Stand Up To Cancer

yes alot of companies feel that if you donate to one project or idea you wont donate to another... and for some that is true

right now i only have so much money a month and dont have a lot to spare but i feel that using my spare cpu cycles for curing cancer as well as everything else done here is worth more than spending alot of money that 50% + of the money goes into overhead at the companies and dosnt actually make it to the science.

If I had more money to spend i would donate to cancer and aids and alot of other causes..but right now i dont so i do what i can i promote aids and cancer awareness... i volunteer time to support them I myself am a cancer survivor. but right now all i can support is 5 cpu's.. i honestly dont have the energy or spair money to fix my last computer (just needs a new fan in the power supply).

oh well im off to visit my wife in the hospital (recovering from surgery). Again i do what i can with the money i have.

yes i wish they would promote WCG and other BOINC projects but so many people feel that they will loose too much money if they do.
