I installed Boinc 6.10.58 yesterday, after being away from WCG for a long time. Now, I cannot get Boinc to use the "only after idle" setting. Whatever I set it to, Boinc runs constantly. I turn "while computer is in use" on or off, and that doesn't affect it. If I set "while processor usage is less than", Boinc will respect that preference, so I know it's using my local preferences.
I can't tell if the "Computing allowed" preferences are ORed or ANDed -- but whichever way, no set of options I've tried will make BOINC stop running while I'm actively working. Any help? Thank you! Joe Fusion Mac OS X 10.6.4, Macbook Pro, dual-core Intel |

Some local & web prefs always work, some others only when the "Run based on preferences" is selected in the Activity menu.
----------------------------------------Don't know, but I'd think that the settings for when not to crunch are and and.

Thanks. I have "Run based on preferences" selected. I even turned it to "Run always" and back to see if that affected anything. (Which it didn't.)

Hi jfusion.
----------------------------------------First let me welcome you again to World Communtiy Grid.I'm glad you are back. First click the clear button. Then uncheck the While Computer is in use setting. Tehn apply that and see if the status of each task is written "suspended- user active". Hope it works. ![]() - AMD Ryzen 5 1600AF 6C/12T 3.2 GHz - 85W - AMD Ryzen 5 2500U 4C/8T 2.0 GHz - 28W - AMD Ryzen 7 7730U 8C/16T 3.0 GHz |

OK, please hit the clear button on local prefs so it is ensured only the web prefs are in effect. Then visit the client associated device profile in My Grid > Device Manager (home, school, work, or default) and confirm that the Do work while computer is in use? is marked NO. The funny, maybe buggy bit is that the GPU option in 6.10.58 best is also set to NO (default and not showing currently on WCG web prefs), but that should not be of importance as the GPU and CPU scheduler are supposed to operate independently.

In a post in this thread Suspending computation - no recent user activity I have already reported on Aug 29:
----------------------------------------3. At least in my configuration (v6.10.17 + Ubuntu) the "suspend activity when no user input" feature seems to be buggy. It suspends activity as soon as it receives a positive value from the website profile, whatever I have done before and, worse, it never resumes, whatever I do on the computer. It looks like this bug is still not fixed and that it is not Linux-only. ![]() |

Is boinctray.exe running? That's a Vista/W7 requirement though, not XP.
----------------------------------------Curiously, the Linux version has no "snooze"... not even a system tray like icon. Not seen in 6.10.17, .56 and .58 so guess it just does not exist and what did I know, Trac ticket # 463: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/trac/ticket/463 reports the idle/non pause as an open bug.
