I'm relatively new to WWG, and I noticed that persons who post in the forums are listed as Veteran Cruncher, Senior Cruncher, etc. I wondered how those "titles" are defined, and I poked around and found that the titles relate to the number of posts made in the forums. The title definitions seem strange to me, because the wording of the titles refers to crunching not to posting. I, for example, am a Cruncher and will probably retain that title for years to come since I have no particular desire to do a lot of posts, but I'll do a lot of crunching as the months go by. So, my suggestion is to either change the wording of the titles to relate to # posts or to change the definitions to relate to the amount of crunching being performed.

It's just a name given. There are so many variations to this theme.
----------------------------------------Next time when you reach ten million credit and make a post you're in disguise, except possibly your badges will give away that you're really a mega cruncher... there's (was?) plan for adding a few more levels. There's also certificates scheduled for this year and this odd whitespace between title and country. There might be something up with that but nobody of WCG ever shared a word on that. So far, from gossip central.

Thanks for your comments! I'm a retired software engineer and was trained to be clear and exact in my writing. It seems to me the wording of the titles is poor writing -- wording that refers to amount of crunching but definitions that refer to # posts. Oh well, ...

I agree about the wording.
----------------------------------------I also have a problem with the badging system. It penalizes me for spending time working for more than just WCG projects. So, I put my BOINCstats block in my signature. This lets anyone who cares know right where I am (99.214 percentile in all of BOINC for all of BOINC history); where I stand with WCG (96th percentile), where WCG stands with me (numero uno, share weight 200 on five machines). |

I'm a retired software engineer and was trained to be clear and exact in my writing. With a similar background I fully understand your concern and I think I have already posted similar comments in the past.But if you like precise wording and appropriate use of words you will quickly find that this forum title topic is a minor inconvenience when compared to the genuine BOINC terminology where a result is a unit of work to do and not the result of that work, a project is a grid site (i.e. the logistics) and not a scientific project which needs our contribution. Only two examples among many others. People who started BOINC may be knowledgeable in computer science, but they were probably very poor as far as English is concerned. A recent example in our forum of this weak use of English by BOINC is a "maximum elapsed time exceeded" message actually referring to maximum CPU time.
