Malfunctioning Screensaver

The screensaver isn't filling out the screen like it's supposed to.

It's only in one corner of the screen.

Re: Malfunctioning Screensaver

I've disconnected from the Muscular Dystrophy research project.

When the screensaver problem is resolved, then I'll reconnect.

Re: Malfunctioning Screensaver

Hi,

That's not much to work with to diagnose what's wrong and why. Plz give us a screenshot of the regular graphics screen when launched from BOINC Manager and your system details, OS/CPU/Video Card/Video Driver Version/Client version.

Just testing a HCMD2 task on my laptop with NVidia card and when expanding the graphic window to full screen it looks fine, the graphics frame appeared left bottom first and after a little started moving randomly around the screen. The number of frame refreshes can be controlled from the Device Profile on the website. I've got it very low, so it needed patience to happen.

Let Us Know

Re: Malfunctioning Screensaver

Okay, I reconnected to the project, and as soon as it begins running a task, I'll copy and paste a picture of the screensaver in this forum (if I can figure out how).

Thanks.

Re: Malfunctioning Screensaver

I found the same malfunction on another World Community Grid project, which used the identical screensaver format.

The problem is the screensaver design, or program, or whatever.

The screensaver graphic should COMPLETELY fill the screen, but it only appears in one quarter of it.

So, I've disconnected from those two projects, and also a couple of other projects which didn't display a screensaver sample.

Hey, I like the graphics, and if there ain't no graphics, well then, there's plenty of other scientific research projects that have excellent graphics for their screensaver programs.

Thank you.

Re: Malfunctioning Screensaver

writesong,

No, these do not expand to full screen. For instance DDDT2 and C4CW do but HCMD2 and CEP2 don't. They're too complex and would just need too much CPU time build. The frames are then kept the size of the normally hand started graphics and move around the screen as staying in one place could lead to a form of burn-in, even on LCD displays. If this does not satisfy your needs for full screen display, that's regrettable.

If there are WCG sciences that don't show graphics, some taking considerable time to build an image, then please tell us which and on what computer CPU/OS/Display Card, Display make. Also then provide a copy from the client startup log that you can find by selecting the message button or the message tab and scrolling to the top. Select about 30 lines and hit the copy selected messages and paste them into a reply to this.

cheers and thanks for volunteering CPU time at WCG.

Re: Malfunctioning Screensaver

Thanks for the guidance.

Since you indicate they offer a full screen graphic, I'll reconnect to DDDT2.

I'm already running HCC and C4CW.

HPF2 was the other project that didn't provide a full screen graphic, so I disconnected from that one.

Previously on WCG, I ran the NR4TW project, and it had a really impressive screensaver graphic.

The Milky Way and Malaria Control projects (not part of WCG) don't have any screensaver graphics at all, so I no longer participate in them.

The Climate Prediction project (not part of WCG) has an excellent screensaver.

I signed up for LHC (also not part of WCG), but haven't received any work, so I don't know what their graphics will look like.

I got started on all this by running SETI@Home, and I reckon that spoiled me, for after that, I expected all scientific research projects to include a really bodacious screensaver graphic.

Again, thanks for your guidance, and I'll keep looking for good projects.

Re: Malfunctioning Screensaver

Hi john,

Yes, the RICE graphics was nice with the proteins overlaying the views of the rice paddies.

Malaria Control had an SS back when I tested their project malaria simulation application. You may be able to choose in their project specific settings and indeed there is about 6 to choose from http://www.malariacontrol.net/prefs.php?subset=project

LHC is very spaced out in work provision and CPDN's graphics is very demanding particular if you add the overlays, my personal prefs to just peek into them and then set the SS back into the blank for max cycle allocation to the science.

BTW in the BOINC screen-saver you can set after how many minutes the SS should go blank so your display can switch off. The controls that come with the 6.10 BOINC client has about 4 sliders to optimize for personal prefs. See FAQ http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/...5&lastpage=yes#266370

happy crunching
