Water costs here around 2,5 euros per cubic meter. The price includes sewerage water (over 50 % of the total sum). The water price itself consists from 60 % of cold and 40 % of hot water. It is all drinkable, you don’t need to boil it.
----------------------------------------All the residents pay 10-12 euros every month from the water (so four person family pays around 40 euros). It is calculated so, that each resident consumes 150-165 liters of water each day. Now, this doesn’t really encourage people to preserve water, as no one has a clue on how much they’re actually consuming. This is about to change, starting from 2012, when every new apartment needs to get own water meter installed.
to infinity and beyond

dkt, a cubic metre is a kilolitre (kL - 1000 litres). So your $20 for 60 gallons comes out at about $88 for a kL.
Suddenly my bill doesn't sound so bad at all. |

If I remember to change it monthly as suggested, the whole house filter costs $5. Other than that the only other cost is a little electricity to run the water pump. We have a 12k gallon cistern under our front porch that is fed only by rain water coming off the roof. City water is available down at the road (150 meters away) but in the 10 years that we've lived here we've only had to buy a load of water twice (2k gal delivered by a tanker at roughly $100 per load). As we have 3 teenagers in the house I consider this great.

In Germany we pay 1.14 EUR per cubic metre. This includes tax.
Added is a fee per flat of 1.64 EUR per month and cost of 7 EUR per year for the meter. |

In Calgary Canada i pay $1.3067 CND/cubic meter + 11.98/ month for the smallest meter(which is what most houses have) + $0.6575 and $10.52 for sewer. So about 1.45EUR/cubic meter plus fees of 16.75EUR/month. And of course 5% tax on top of that.

Here in Colorado Springs, I pay $0.3383 per day service charge for water. Then, I pay $0.0224 per cubic foot (CF) for the first 999 CF. Then I pay $0.0418 per CF for the next 1,421 CF. Water is provided by Colorado Springs Utilities, owned by the Colorado Springs government. I also have to pay wastewater, which is $0.5092 per day service charge, and $0.0246 per CF.
Most of our water comes from the mountains here. Each year, from now on, they are going to raise our water rates to pay for the Southern Delivery System. I have a 12 zone sprinkler system in our yard, so when it is dry (as it usually is), we use quite a large amount of water on irrigation. |

A little update from when I last posted, I had a letter from our water company and they are reimbursing me for £82 in the last 4 months.
Brings my monthly bill to £19.50. Great for me, but the bigger picture is how much water is wasted on a daily basis! |

Here in Montreal, Canada, we pay 25$ a year fixed price, and water is not metered (residential and business). Water quality is so good we recently learned Coca-Cola bottles it and sells it under the "Aquafina" brand, and an increasing number of people buy it as they're afraid of drinking tap water. a total nonsense !
----------------------------------------water treatment costs are covered by what we pay, businesses like that tariff too, thus raising the question about the true cost of water supply and huge profits made by those who sell it. It's a big financial relief for low income families, however, in some cases it leads to negligent use. Rising environmental issues awareness trends to limit this problem. Metering will be added starting in 2011 for businesses that use a lot. There have been some attempts to transfer water to private sector, and so far, fortunately, they failed. I wish it was the same elsewhere, but, mostly in third world countries, water for profits is a complete ripoff both by corporations and corrupt governments that undermines people's health and development.
