I joined this network yesterday. I have the program on my PC at my workplace. Although I am the only user on my PC I still "log-off" when I leave for the night (for security), but I leave my PC on.
Upon coming in this morning I had the impression that the program had not run all night, since it seems to be showing only 23 minutes of CPU usage. Hence my question. Must I remain logged-on or do I need to enable the program to run after I log-off? If the latter, how and where? If the software isn't designed to work after I "log-off" perhaps this could be fixed in a future release. Thanks - Pen |

I agree, running this as a service would be a big improvement. I could deploy the software to all systems at my company & schedule the agent to run during off-hours. We could rack up some serious processing time in that scenario. My company alone could contribute almost 18,000 processor hours per week...

One thought: Lock your computer instead of logging off. Both require your password to log back on, and so, in theory, are equally secure.
(On Win2k and XP, CTRL-ALT-DEL, and choose Lock) I agree it should have the option to run as a service, however. |

Thanks CompuDude. Duh. Didn't know about locking my PC instead of logging off.
For other people who are reading this thread and need to log-off, there is a thread with the same topic of logging-off in the "member-to-member support" forum. A user there explains how to create a task and set it so the grid agent runs upon computer boot up. I tried this and it works, however the grid agent icon in my system tray disappeared and I wasn't able to get it back. I have now deleted the task and will "lock" my PC at night rather than logging off. However, for people who want to be able to log-off or have multiple users, you might check out the other thread for the task scheduling instructions, and deal with the icon issue. Pen |

Hmm. I use XP but do not see the lock feature...Is this feature based in XP Pro? 'cause I have Home Edt. WinKey+L Switches users on my computer. Maybe putting it in StandBy would be the right choice for XP Home Edt. users.

Just wondering, if I change the screensaver to something else and not the WCG Screensaver will the program still run? Like if I use the Windows 2000 screensaver instead.

Can't promise you, but I believe that switching screensavers doesn't stop the program execution - in fact, it should help the program run faster as the graphics for the WGC screensaver take processing power away from the number-crunching portion of the program. |
