Re: smilesmile Join "MyOnlineTeam" Today - Chapter 45smilesmile

Sorry for being away so long. A certain Texan pinged me last week and asked me why I wasn't a member of the team I kicked off. He had a point and reading this thread and the care and concern you all show for each other - it's like coming home.

Hope Dave B is getting better.

When I left I had 1 athlon and 2 celerons - single cores. Time moves on (at one point just the Netbook sad)
I return with 1 Atom and a Phenom II 905E quad

One of these arrives Tuesday http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/K10/AMD-Phenom%...GR%20(HDT55TWFGRBOX).html

The quad is then going into a nice server I'm building biggrin Watch out folks Dave A is back wink

...parmesian I'm up to 48 out of us day one old timers

I have some catching up to do love struck

Chapter 45!

Verry happy to have you back--HOME-- wink

smile Actually I am in Austin Texas this morning working on my son's network/computers. So I am a bit behind my normal schedule. Your post got me to wondering.... Since your house electriciity (Mains) is 220-240v, I wonder if at Watt is the same there as here.. I know current measurements are not the same...

I wish there were a place where we could look up the total WCG througput of various configurations. Years ago, I used to maintain a list of benchmark ratings but things have gotten a good deal more complicated now. I am thinking of building another machine and had not really considered AMD...but they seem to have increased performance significantly.

Intel processors cost more but while the processor price is important, when the price delta is spread over n months, it seems a little less significant. Who knows for sure (in terms of WCG througput) which is better?.... confused

A Watt is the same. Equipment-wise, in general, the wattage ratings are about the same (amperage drops as voltage increases). One area that a significant difference can be seen is in power supplies. Power supplies with higher input voltage typically are more efficient, so a system connected to 220v will usually use less power than the same system connected to 110v. Notice that there are a lot of "generally", 'usually" and "typically" type words in the above. There's always a exception.
