In a previous thread, Human Proteome Folding Scientist Patrick (pcw216) posted back in April:
----------------------------------------The current plan, to keep you all informed, is to annotate proteins from the Human Microbiome Project. Compiling the protein sets for this data is proving to be extremely complicated. With such a huge number of sequence reads, we want to make sure we target proteins that are truly novel for the WCG. This is going to be a major undertaking and may result in some new publicity from IBM. With that in mind I don't want to give too much away, but I can assure you we will roll it out with plenty of information. So 3 months later, I am wondering whether there is any news about this. For all I know, there is nothing at all planned in revising the HPF2 science app for the upcoming HMB experiment, but then we CA's only are allowed small peeks. Think bbover3 was pretty unambiguous it's something entirely new what he hinted at. The work name is known but not the moniker and whether it has a '1' as suffix or not, but it will have a new badge ;P

shrug i guess i will go on my plan of watch and wait.. i figure i have 12-14 days before my HPF2 turns sapphire.
----------------------------------------personaly within that time i am hopeing for at least one of 1) dddt2 has some nice rain storm and we get a flow of work units 2) CEP 2 shows up for windows 3) new project shows up and of corse always ... 4) a rush of beta work that gets me closer to beta bronze but right now i just watch and wait ![]() |

martin64,
We appreciate the interest. Post-processing and re-evaluating the thousands of proteins already folded has been consuming our in-house computing resources. As I've mentioned before, we're still developing a publication to highlight and describe our database of structure predictions. It's been taking some time, which is mostly attributed to the large amount of processing we have to do on our end. We've been electing to fold proteins that we already have prepared for the pipeline before we embark on a new set. With that said, we have discussed the microbiome dataset with IBM and we all agree that it should be folded in with the current HPF pipeline. Things run smoothly enough that it makes sense to slip the dataset in with the current project. Of course, I'll do my best to inform you all of the details when it happens. We're excited about this, but it will be delayed until we can pay it appropriate attention. -- Patrick |

Patrick if I may a small comment.
----------------------------------------If the Human Microbiome project is a well specific identified dataset I would vote for a badge that is specific to it. I do not know if it is too much additional work as you can use the HPF2 pipeline as is. A new badge may bring back the badge hunters to crunch for WCG, and those who left the HPF2 project once they have got the Sapphire badge. This may seem a futile issue for you but for crunchers it is an important element of attractiveness. ![]() ![]() |

Suppose resource sizes give different perspectives. Many are still hunting for higher levels on HPF2, and why create work for Techs setting up yet another stream, artwork, forum, translations and whatnot? There's enough "new" and levels of badges to hunt for most, with 2 new researches already known in the public in pre-announcement.
