Maintenance on server

Hi,

I'm getting these 2 notifications:
- Error reported by the upload server: Maintenance underway: file uploads are temporarily disabled.
- Project is temporarily shut down for maintenance.

Is there any news how long it will take for us to get any new tasks?
Servers are down for over 2,5 hours now.

Thanks!

Re: Maintenance on server

They're currently doing some upgrade work on them. No doubt, uplinger will post back when complete... See the thread Possible Server Outage July 13, 2010 at 16:30:00 UTC

Re: Maintenance on server

I have to keep a very small cache level (GPU thing), so I have run out of WCG tasks on several systems. The ones I could reach are now having to crunching elsewhere, or have been switched off (only in one case). If I had more advanced notice I would have manually stocked up for a day or two, on as many as I could. Luckily I did this on two systems today anyway. At least it's not the weekend! Hope you finish your server updates soon. GL

Re: Maintenance on server

I also maintain a small WU cache (0.2 days) and ran out of WCG work on one of my quads during the maintenance cycle but things appear to be back to normal as 0f 0039 hrs UTC. All pending uploads completed okay and I received new work for all cores..

Edit: corrected time from 12 hours off.

Re: Maintenance on server

I've got two PC's that are having issues.
They both ran up with errors during the maintenance window, but afterwards could still not get any WU's.

I've rebooted each macine and had to go in and Update the task.
However the single core machine has downloaded one WU only and the Dual core has downloaded 2 WU's.
So there are none downloaded and waiting. I have a cache set at 0.4days and this normally downloads 3 WU's on the single core and 4 WU's on the dual core. Both of these machines can only communicate with the servers during a 10 hour window each day as during other times there is a closed tunnel VPN running.
So I'm going to run out of WU's for a significant period each day.

rwremote,
After your post I also noticed my cache didn't have any extra WU's waiting to work so I temporarily increased it from 0.2 to 0.7 and got the extra work. If you are still within your window of communication, maybe you should temporarily up your cache to a day to get you through the dry spell then put it back to your usual number.

Re: Maintenance on server

Due to the maintenance, one of my PC's ran out of work. I also found the website was down for hours, so I couldn't do anything.

As there seems to be regular maintenance outages at the moment, I will now increase the waiting cache on my slow PC to over a day. (My fast PC has 3.5 days of waiting work, so I would hope that is adequate)

Re: Maintenance on server

Don't think 16:30 UTC is an ideal time to start these update runs, particular if snags develop (though there will be overarching reasons to run it this time). I had set my clients to a scheduled reconnect at 23:00 UTC (that's my 01:00am CEST) and when they did, they were still told to back off and only managed to get the last CEP2 job up at 23:40. As many would not have set a scheduled networking, backoff times will have been significant to go beyond 00:00 UTC, the effect translated into a daily stats of 218 CPU years instead of an anticipated 290. Doubt if a remaining hour would have allowed uploads worth 70+ CPU years worth of work. Just a thought to maybe change the order to allow more EOD time for task complete reporting if it has to be so late in the day.

Thoughts of a stats addict of course :D

Cache, well I ride on 0.9 days Additional buffer, with connect set to 0.00 (perm connect when the network schedule activity menu setting is not on). Bridges most all outages.
