I wonder that research result(research's everything) is opened to the public or monopolized that team(lab). I'm worried about that.

yes the results go out to public domain after they have been gone though by the company. so yes the company will get a head start but all the reserch will end up in public domain.

Well, they put in the labor and intellect and do the data cleanup and analysis to ascertain that it's useful, so logically they have the 1 up. Will they sneak the information out to 'friends in other places'. I'm not going to worry about that.
----------------------------------------What IBM/WCG ensures before starting is that a research project is fully funded through the end and that the information does go public at the end... and IBM/WCG will chip in with post processing, storage and expertise to make sure that does happen [though that is not advertised]!
