Hi,
----------------------------------------I found an issue with the Mac OS installer (on 10.6). I was just wondering what forum would be best to report the issue, or determine if it's already known? Here is the issue: When the installer option Do you also want non-administrative users to be able to run and control BOINC on this Mac? is set to No the install succeeds, but BOINC Manager subsequently errors-out when starting, with: BIONC ownership or permissions are not set properly; please reinstall BOINC. (Error code -1037) However, BOINC Manager works correctly when reinstalled with that option set to Yes Thanks, -- Doug [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Jun 3, 2010 8:19:13 PM] |

P.S. This is on a freshly installed Mac OS 10.6.3 (with no previous BOINC).

Douglas,
----------------------------------------Could not immediately find the meaning of the error code, but remember when you are not granting All Users, you have to manually add the user to the permissions list whom you want to give access, such as yourself. BOINC setup only gives that to the administrator. To do that, visit this wiki page http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Tools_for_Mac_OS_X The section Selecting which users may run BOINC Manager covers it I think. ttyl

You might also want to try this version: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dl/boinc_6.10.56_macOSX_universal.zip

Thanks Sekerob.
I neglected to say in my original post, that I performed the install when logged in as an administrative user, then tried to launch BOINC Manager (actually, it was automatically launched at the end of the install) from the same administrative user. But perhaps even administrative users may need to be manually added to the permissions list. I should also emphasize that I did re-install BOINC and granted All Users, and it is now working fine. I am happy with this setup. I just wanted to report the issue. -- Doug |

Thanks knreed.
I tried the 6.10.56 installer. It no longer offered me the option (to disallow non-administrative users from running BOINC). The install was successful. FYI, I had been using 6.10.17. Anyways, it appears the problem is already solved. :) -- Doug |

Excellent... if you plz edit your opening post and insert [RESOLVED] in the title we can let this sink.
----------------------------------------And thanks for letting us know on 6.10.17... it has more flaws!
