I talked a friend into contributing but he is having a problem downloading/installing the WCG BOINC Client.
----------------------------------------He has joined the community. He logs in and selects the DOWNLOAD tab and clicks the 'download now link'. The software downloads but the .exe file is only 128kb in size. When it is run Windows flags it as an invalid file. I tried downloading using my account and I have the same problem, the download files is not valid. There is no active AV or Firewall on either machine. One is Win XP the other Win 7. [edit]I tried multiple downloads under my account. I pulled a complete file on the 3rd try, so it appears t/b intermittent.[/edit] Any thoughts/help on the reason? Edit: Changed topic to [Resolved]

Can't reproduce here with Firefox on W7. When I click normally on the download now button, a popup screen appears asking what I want to do, download in default folder or alternate location or execute directly [bad idea and known to fail]. At the end it's being scanned by my AV and then tells in the sidebar it's 7.7MB.

Forgot to add using IE7 (XP) & IE8 (7). The sequence is the same as you describe,, click 'download now link', select 'Save', save to Install directory then run ...exe. Everything looks normal except it's pulling down a partial file sometimes. Strange??
----------------------------------------Thanks for the reply! Bill P

Try not to execute when the download is complete, rather let it exit and go to the file browser to check.
----------------------------------------Occasionally I clear the download history... though properly, this should not be of impact on the process. IE may remember it was downloaded before and then fails and sure enough when I did it with IE8 and confirmed to overwrite the old download it broke off after 303KB.

PS: The message then on execution was: Error reading setup initialization file i.e. partial.

Sekerob, Thanks again for the reply. I have tried a number of variations, clearing IE cache, download to clean directory, download overwriting existing file, using FF, etc. What I am seeing is an intermittent failure in the download. At this time of night I have seen only 1 partial file download and 10 full file downloads. Earlier in the day it was about 50/50 full to partial download. The sequence I'm using is to download the file to a directory/file folder, closing the Browser and then opening Windows Explorer to check the file size. My best guess is that it seems to be related to site and/or network activity. Since the problem is intermittent and I am able to download a full file I'm going to mark this as resolved. Thanks again for the assistance. Perhaps this may be of use to someone else that encounters this problem (I know, slim to no chance it will ever be read Bill P
