Re: BOINC Manager refuses to recognize WCG Profile

Thanks. I see what I need to do. I have been very specific with the configurations for WCG. So, I will jot them down and take them to each machine to check on which "profile" is now set for that machine and change what needs to be changed.

I have in truth never seen this before, never had an occasion to look.

Other BOINC projects calls it "Location", and it shows-up for each computer, or "---" if set to "default". You don't need to create specific preferences, you'll only need to make sure each computer is set to the correct "Location".

WCG calls it "Selected Profile" when you looks on the Device Manager, http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/device/viewDevices.do

Oh, and while many users won't read previous posts, atleast it should be a little easier if the C.A.'s remember someone before had this problem, so can hopefully also remember the solution... wink

Re: BOINC Manager refuses to recognize WCG Profile

Seeing the snark-master is in with an eyetwitch, think to have seen a 3 headed specimen in the Norwegian landscape on last visit... was late night, moving fast only seeing the silhouette against a full moon. Don“t remember their regular name presently... CA's are also known as goofers ... you do recollect that I'm sure :O

PS: You still need working on those excess esses in your English... rather simple, hoping that those of native speak know that venue is a synonym to location, (per my thesaurus).

Re: BOINC Manager refuses to recognize WCG Profile

PPS: Device Profile is what you follow in the left margin after Device Manager, Selected Profile is the header to the column that lists the profile that's coupled to a specific device. Am presuming that mitrichr confirmed that the name shown in that column for that device shows in the log. Best is verify is to change e.g. a behavioral influencing value such as connect time, then save and update in the client and check message log that the correct venue/location/profile shows there with new time-stamp. mitrichr far as I recollect is on 6.10 clients (he GPU crunches). The version though not mentioned in the OP problem description for the said problem device.

Re: BOINC Manager refuses to recognize WCG Profile

Sek-

Yes, everything correct, except no GPU here. I did have a lot of work to do, especially on the new machines. I had never set profiles on the non-WCG projects on either of the two new machines. This will be a lesson I hope I retain.

Ingleside - yes, I still see value inn bringing up questions for good explication. I try to search to see if an issue has come up before, it can be hard guessing or picking the right keywords to search, but I try.

I think that my efforts here are well worth it, I am technically challenged, to be sure, but somehow I have reached almost the 99th percentile of all crunchers for all time in BOINC Stats, 98.988 at last look.

Re: BOINC Manager refuses to recognize WCG Profile

It strikes me as I mull over all of this, somewhere was there not a config setting to the effect of local prefs override prefs at projects? Am I not remembering this correctly?

Re: BOINC Manager refuses to recognize WCG Profile

mitrichr, if you hit Clear button in Local Prefs, automatically the website prefs last updated and associated to a device take effect. Certain fields of local and web prefs will only be used when you set the client in the activity menu as "Run based on Preferences" such as the part time scheduling. The moment you change a local pref, all the unchanged web prefs are copied into the local prefs, therefrom the web prefs are disabled (except for things such as the science selections and screensaver CPU/Frame use frequency)
