Question about our progress so far on aids here at the grid

once we finish the research on Fight aids @home here on the world community grid what can we expect? will we have a treatment ready or even a cure? I realize all this computer time being donated is to fight aids but what is the most probable outcome once the fight aids @ home project is done? will there be a phase 2 or is this it?

Re: Question about our progress so far on aids here at the grid

Hi kolleamm,

I doubt very much that there'll be a "phase 2" to FA@H, as the scientists simply keep adding new experiements on to "phase 1". As you may have seen elsewhere on the forum, we've just recently begun crunching WU's from experiment #33 (as it was deemed that it's a higher priority than experiment #32).

As to the progress, then I'd recommend you visit the Research pages for FA@H, the actual Scripps Research Institute Website or the latest volume (vol6) of their progress. Also, there's a 'progress website' showing the actual status and descriptions of the experiments.

Hopefully, you'll find your answers there, although I think in essence, what we're all working towards, is a cure - as to if/when that'll happen, unfortunately, only time will tell... What can clearly be seen though, is that the work is progressing and hopefully, one day, we'll be able to beat this disease.

Re: Question about our progress so far on aids here at the grid

unfortunately like most projects out here this is one of the first stages in developing a cure. it will probably take years from the end of each sub project before the scientists can find out if each sub project lead to a cure or not.

we just have to hope we can find a cure for AIDS as well as every other drug in time for us.

remember every computer helps and every work unit crunched helps us lead towards a cure.

the scientists for this project (as many other projects here at WCG) answer questions as best as they can when they can and give us wonderful updates on progress of the projects.

happy crunching
