Unplanned outage May 21 [Resolved]

There was about a 3 hour outage today. During this time the website and the BOINC servers were down.

Thank you for your patience.

We are experiencing issues and have turned off the BOINC services. So you will not be able to send or receive new work at this time.

Re: Unplanned outage May 21 [Resolved]

Our first thought about what had happened was wrong. Shortly after we brought things up again, they failed again. We are currently investigating a different path to see if that is the core issue. As uplinger noted, at this time we have BOINC uploads and scheduler requests turned off. With this issue we are seeing we cannot handle our normal capacity.

Re: Unplanned outage May 21 [Resolved]

We are currently seeing a massive number of connections opened to our servers and immediately go stale. We looking at the network to see what is causing these stale connections.

In the meantime, we have been able to set the default Timeout for stale connections to 12 seconds (the normal timeout is 300 seconds). This is closing the stale connections fast enough that we have been able to allow file uploads and scheduler requests to resume running. However, we expect that people will see a lot of broken connections until we resolve the underlying issue.

We are no longer experiencing stale connections. The system should be operating normally.
