Is there any possibility or has anyone experienced boink freezing or stopping all internet connections, not just within the programe itself but in my web browser too? It would appear that since upgrading to v 6.10.18 and running GPU tasks after about 5 mins i lose all ability to connect to anything. I am showing a conection to my isp but i can get no traffic in or out in any program at all. If i close boink down and exit it i get my surffing ability back again. I am running win 7 home premium 6.1.7600 build 7600.
----------------------------------------I did not experience this problem untill i downloaded and installed the 6.10v a couple of days ago err might have been yesterday even. I am pretty sure boink is responsible but i am in Thailand where isp's can do some amazingly wierd things so there might be room for error of judgement in my opinion of it being boink, but i don't think so. Anyone have any ideas on if this is possible, as when surffing is the best time for me to be crunching and i hate having to close the programe down when it could be chugging away. Thanks in advance. Greetings, boatabike! I have never had problems with Boinc being responsible for any interference with my DSL connections. I have version 6.10.18. Could be your ISP or some crazy setting that has not been checked or un-checked. Good Luck! ![]() ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by Johnny Cool at May 6, 2010 4:08:08 PM] |

boatabike,
----------------------------------------Do these hangs only appear during GPU science processings or also when only CPU processing is taking place? If you changed the default NO on Use GPU when computer is in use, change it back as you should NOT allow GPU processing during use of the computer! GPU sciences are kind of all or nothing type processes... something WCG could be loath to introduce as when a GPU based science would be introduced here, many will want to get on, yet do not know about all the pitfalls to be aware off. As it is 6.10 mostly on the GPU side is still being developed and the Video card / driver makers still need to work on their side to make it a general acceptable feature... so that it does not impeed on user system operations.

Sekerob your spot on. I had ticked the GPU box and this was the problem. Since unticking the box i can run boink and have internet. So GPU going flat out would appear to cause connection issues with internet. For me at least.
Thanks for the good advice. |

It's not your internet. It's the display not updating... as it's doing something with your GPU processor ;-)
----------------------------------------My thinking is that if you have dual card system and enable one for GPU crunching [don't know how or if possible] and were able to tell BOINC which specific GPU card to use, the other could be left alone to use the system. Generally these sciences should use little CPU time i.e. 1 core can be used for both the GPU process managing and for a CPU based science. I'll let the experts pitch in if willing. Meantime I'm in awe on the display effects one can set on Lucid Lynx Linux. Never knew my GT 220 could do that. Shifting windows is like moving sheets in a soft breeze. edit: Oh and please edit your Opening post to insert [RESOLVED] in the title as I just did in this reply. happy crunching.

I am a bit confused here. I have understood that with WCG projects there is no use of GPU. Has that changed?

....but there is nothing stopping you doing other projects at the same time as WCG.....
