upgrade to ubuntu 10.04

I upgraded to Ubuntu 10.04 yesterday and now get the error message.
App version has unsupported platform i686-pc-linux-gnu. The computer has completed all of my work units but does not accept any more.

Re: upgrade to ubuntu 10.04

Have you upgraded from a 32 Bit Ubuntu 9.10 to a 64Bit Ubuntu 10.04? If you want to run 32Bit applications on 64 Bit Ubuntu, you must install the 32Bit libraries:
sudo apt-get install libc6-i386
The website I took this from is this one here: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=241088

Follow my I Confez thread. The solution was added to the FAQ's also.

Re: upgrade to ubuntu 10.04

Rick,

to add the both Synaptic Package Manager and Ubuntu Software Center have this listed as libc6-i386. In my case it was installed at time when looking it up.

The FAQ I refer to is this http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,28642. After adding and rereading the config, things ran.

Re: upgrade to ubuntu 10.04

I have been running boinc on this computer for more than two years. I have always used the 64 bit version of ubuntu. This is the first time I got this error message and I have upgraded every 6 months so this upgrade is somehow different. I wanted to know if there are other ubuntu users who have had the same problem.

Re: upgrade to ubuntu 10.04

yes, as indicated I had it to on 10.04 RC. Did the offered fixes solve your problem and which, both maybe in which case I'll expand the FAQ.

If fixed, please edit title in your opening post with [RESOLVED], but please do tell what worked for you.

Re: upgrade to ubuntu 10.04

There are hardware problems with the computer. I communicate with it using vnc. When I attached a mouse, keyboard and monitor I found that the mouse and keyboard did not work. I had an external usb adapter that had its own power supply and connected it to the computer. The mouse and keyboard now work. Mouse and keyboard would not work in either usb or ps/2 connectors. Computer now has worked for 2 days using a old hard drive with ubuntu 8.10. Maybe I will get brave and update it later. This is not the first computer, I have seen, that has had problem with the usb power so I suspect that there is a significant problem with new computers.

Re: upgrade to ubuntu 10.04

Except for the tough time with WIFI N, I was actually quite impressed how bluetooth wireless was taken up, even the HP995C bluetooth linked printer was identified proper and been happily churning out documentation so when internet goes in this trial and error, I know which commands to enter to get things back. The wireless keyboard, both the bluetooth mouse and mediapad were hooked up on the go. Now closing in to get full integration into the LAN. Samba is resisting. The learning curve is steeper than that followed by a space shuttle launch... need some booster rockets :D

Meantime, experienced a not so nice BOINC networking issue and other odd freezes one sees occasionally with W7 when the desktop turns quasi translucent gray and it taking 30 seconds or longer before responsiveness returns, but till now have 251 validated results for the newly registered device, so think it's pretty okay.

Now this is a head scratcher... why does English keep defaulting back to EN-AU(stralian), when I've set it to EN-US and downloaded the distro from the Italian mirror. cool
