Well first thing, what is important? Statistic or amount of returned Units and research progress? I would give alot for 0 statistic and faster research result.
----------------------------------------HT in simple words (not 100% corect) is usage of free time between normal orders in CPU so one HT thread is slower than non HT thread but if you take them together it give you more power(If I remember corect about 10-20%). It Works.. Running 8 Threads all together on one box with 8 GB of RAM here. not much of a difference between Non HT 4 threads and HT 8 threads. CPU is more effecient with 8
CPU and Power use on a Lynfield CPU especially it worth it's weight in Gold. cranks out alot of research at a price of one lightbulb is great. at about 75 - 100 Watts or so.. Lynfields are great crunching CPUs for that purpose.. they use less power in crank alot of work for a budget system. I had a 1 Ghz Pent 3 CPU that used just as much power before I built my I7 860... now I wonder if someone is running a 985X I7 will just the bare essentals for research and how much power is used with 12 threads cranking.. just mobo, one HD, ram and CPU.. with xtra stuff on mobo off cept for NIC/USB connections.. I was thinking I would be using maybe about the same power as the 860 give or take 100 Watts or so.. |

I'm running in a MacPro 2 x 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon ... and it do 8 jobs at the same time ... anyone have some tip to improve it? Run soo well that sometimes i forget that Boinc is running.

I believe you are referring to the I7 980X, and I read that at 3.3ghz, it uses the same energy as the 4 core version (32 nm v 45 nm). So 50% more crunching for same energy. ![]() |

----------------------------------------I think choj01 means 980X, too. Jack007's power consumption comparison would be for the i7-980X vs the i7-920. However the i7-860 would use less power than the 920, so the 980X will do its 50% more work, but use a bit more power than the 860. The only power consumption numbers I've seen were for overclocked 860 and 920 systems, where a couple of guys at XtremeSystems did lots of work comparing these crunchers. See thread i7 920 vs i7 860 direct test comparison . Member 123bob states power consumption at 3.7GHz in post number 16. Running WCG: 223W for the 920 and 186W for the 860. Of course, different motherboards and video cards could affect the comparison. They found that clock-for-clock, the 2 CPUs had almost the same WU throughput. Their 860s did not overclock as well as their 920s when they were pushing their machines to their maximum speeds. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Rickjb at May 3, 2010 5:43:17 PM] |

Forget about CPU speed. We need GPU WUs!! I have a 5970 begging to be use for something other than MilkyWay@home.

You can also use your 5970 at Collatz Conjecture and DNETC@Home.
But it would be nice if we can use our GPU's on more useful projects like the projects in WCG. |
