STRANGE POINTS TALLY COMPARED TO WORK DONE?

I have recently completed one of a large number of CMD WU's and randomly happened to check the WU Status page for one and noted what seems to be a very strange points anomaly, as follows:

Both my WU and the second WU are marked Valid, the crunching times are 6.93 and 6.00 hours respectively, with the points claimed being 168.8 and 29.2 respectively but the points awarded are 137.6 and 37.8 respectively. This seems a particularly low points claim and grant for 6 hours crunching time by the wingman. I note that on other WU species, there is an averaging of the points awarded but that does not appear to be the case for CMD. Has anyone else spotted this on other CMD WU's??

Re: STRANGE POINTS TALLY COMPARED TO WORK DONE?

Looks like a slow and a fast machine met up which ideally should not happen for this project, but due to expedience clearing work in the shared memory sometimes has to be. With HCMD the number of positions computed by each during the run time are then pro-rated from the total credit claimed also taking the past grant history into account. Thus, the slow machine doing fewer positions in the 6 hours cut off gets much less than your task that did all positions that were send in the assignment.

Re: STRANGE POINTS TALLY COMPARED TO WORK DONE?

I'm not sure that the times confirm that proposition. The crunching times are 6 and 6.93 hours and the larger points tally went to the machine that took longer!!!

I'm still unclear how the points claims versus awards computation works but it does appear to be rather perverse, certainly on the basis of this particular Unit, at least!!!

This is the WU:

Re: STRANGE POINTS TALLY COMPARED TO WORK DONE?

Well you may not, but I am. The 6 hour job was cut off because it had not done at least 60% of the positions in the task. The one with 6.93 hours did and proportionally one can derive that the 6.93 machine was in fact multiple times faster... hence the larger credit.

Re: STRANGE POINTS TALLY COMPARED TO WORK DONE?

I bow to your better knowledge in such matters - I hadn't realised that WU's could be cut off etc as you describe, I had assumed that both data sets were identical and had been completed......

I'm not too worried either way as I ended up with the higher points tally!!! Thanks for the explanation.

As far as I know HCMD is the only active project in WCG that uses the "cut-off" system. In other projects the data sets should be more alike.

Re: STRANGE POINTS TALLY COMPARED TO WORK DONE?

RICE did this too and counted the contributed seeds from each task in the quorum to pro-rate the credit.

To precise, HCMD2 has 2 cut-offs, a soft at 6 hours / 60% content progress and 12 hours, which is hard. The position will be finished that is running at 12:00 hours CPU time, the rest loaded in a new task.
