Not sure where to post this, but as it's a team enquiry.....
----------------------------------------Just logged into "my grid" to see how i'm doing on WCG. I noticed that I've been a member of Team Assirans from Brazil????? This is not possible as I'm a member of team Canada Any thoughts on how this happened? [Edit 1 times, last edit by Sirius B at Apr 7, 2010 11:39:34 AM] |

I'm not sure how it could happen.. I would think it would be almost impossible to do so "accidentally." However, Hopefully a community advisor would see this and help you out...

Also, report this to the WCG admins (use the Contact Us link at the bottom of the WCG home page). Give as much detail as you can regardless of how you perceive its relevance. Did you get switched from one team to a totally different team (make sure as best you can that it's not a case of the team name just happened to get changed). Look at the bottom of your My Grid page. It should list each of the teams that you have been a member of. You may also see some info about when you might have "joined" this other team. If you see both your old team and the new team listed, you probably did get switched. If you didn't do that yourself, try to recall if you had to reset your password on your member name here. If you did, consider the possibility that you had a more easily guessable password that allowed someone to log on to your member name and switch teams. If you do not see both teams listed at the bottom of your My Grid page, it may be that the captain of your team may have "quit". I recall threads in the past about teams with captains that gave up their team captain position which left the team without one and that allows anyone who wants to to make themselves the captain of that team. I want to think there was a thread or two a good while back about someone in Brazil coming in and making themselves captain of a number of seemingly "idle" teams. I forget the specifics. The admins should be able to help you sort out what happened in your case.

I noticed that I've been a member of Team Assirans from Brazil????? Since team Assirians has ever had only two membersThis is not possible as I'm a member of team Canada Any thoughts on how this happened? assiria 24/10/09the case seems rather simple. You (Sirius B) have created this team on August 12, 2008 under whatever name that, maybe, you will remember (e.g. "test xxxx"). You have crunched for this team until November 16, 2008 returning one WU during this period. On November 16, 2008 you have left this team for another one, maybe team Canada where you had already been before this experiment. Doing so you left your experimental team without a captain and anybody could then join it and become its captain, which member assiria did on October 24, 2009. Being the captain of this team member assiria was able to change whichever team information s/he wanted, e.g. its name and country, making it Assirians, for country Brazil. If you check the "Team History and Statistics" at the bottom of your "My Grid" page you might confirm the above scenario. Cheers. Jean. |

I never use test a/c's. Also, my password is a very strong one & it's not one that is guessable. The only assumption I can make is that my co team, where wcg is concerned, was hacked as I have no problems with any other boinc project. As it's only 1 wu, I'm not really bothered, just wondered how it happened. |

Sirius B,
----------------------------------------Can you please simply copy/paste your "Team History and Statistics" from the bottom of your My Grid page to your next post. There should be at least three detail lines looking like this (mine): Team Name Joined-Retired Total Run Time Points Generated Results Returned |

Team Name Status
Joined-Retired Total Run Time (y:d:h:m:s) Points Generated Results Returned Canada 11/12/07 - Current 3:360:11:38:20 2,630,152 4,616 Assirians 12/08/08 - 16/11/08 0:000:07:56:31 663 1 It should be "Dacom Systems". Was asked to help out with Team Canada in the Xmas Race that year, so didn't reach my set target for Co team before switching to main team which is Canada. As I've said, not bothered about that single wu, just wondered how it happened. |

Thank you for the details. The thing I did not know was if you would have one or two lines for your participation to team Canada.
----------------------------------------You have created the intermediate team as "Dacom Systems" but, as I said in my first post to you, once member assiria has taken over this left-open team he was able to rename it the way he wanted. As you can see now, there is nothing as breaking passwords or member hijacking in this story. Happy crunching. Jean. PS: Will you be so kind to edit the title of your opening post to show it is [RESOLVED] as I did in this post. Thanks. |

Thanks Jean, have changed the title.
Just a thought though....As founder of Dacom Systems on all the projects I've created that team in, the password is pretty strong, so still cannot see how assira accessed it without breaking the password. As nothing has been attempted since then, there really is nothing to worry about. I was just curious as to how it happened. |
