I also know a LOT about addiction and if that is what you are feeding on, why stop with Farmville? Why not WoW, Runescape, Modern Warfare? Those games at least have players who know a little something about their computers and also rank in the millions. Not to mention systems that typically are built for high end computing. I would start there in all actuality. Even AMD packages F@H in their Catalyst software. And NO damir1978 you are wrong. I do get what you are saying. I think it is just a terrible approach and association for WCG. Playing on peoples addictions is not a good PR campaign. People are addicted whether you want it or not. Gathering their energy to make something good out of their "evil ways" is just plain "white" magic ... not the "black" one you are talking about. For some it might even give them some higher purpose than just playing. So, this intervention I see it as a possible way out more than "playing on peoples addictions". |

Please go ahead and contact Farmville and tell them about World Community Grid and find out if they are willing to have the worlds best volunteer computing project featured on their site. Answer to bbover3 Do I look like I'm working for WCG (any authority I have in discussing any contract with Zynga?)????? You (IBM) should really consider professional people working on increasing WCG pool ... or is this Grid just some in-house experiment like we had with UD company, only to get dumped once the true objective is reached aka cloud computing (UD used GRID.ORG just to test cloud computing with the UD software). So, is it? Dear damir1978, Everybody's got ideas and it's easy to criticize, but very few people actually roll up their sleeves and get to work. If you are interested in seeing World Community Grid grow, then do something about it yourself. Maybe you can get the farmville people to at least start a team on World Community Grid. The concept of giving cash for running on World Community Grid has already been proven. Check out how team Easynews recruits. In a way you are working for World Community Grid. By making suggestions you are saying that you want the grid to grow. And we applaud that. But we have our hands full managing the active projects preparing for the launch of the next few projects, and vetting a bunch of proposals for future projects. Also, comparing World Community Grid to UD is interesting and tells us a lot. UD never ran more than one or two projects and who knows where the results of that went. But they helped get us started so maybe that was their mission. We've already run 15 projects, more if you count phases, and therer are more to come. Enjoy and Thank you. |

Maybe you can get the farmville people to at least start a team on World Community Grid. The idea was to offer incentives (farmcash not cash) so you can open the door for the Farmville people to come. These days, unless they are already almost eccentrically selfless, it is pretty hard to take indifferent people and to "change their hearts" towards a charity/volunteer activity. If they do not have it in their heart it is almost impossible I say. But you can co-interest them in your activity trough smart marketing policy. Now, if WCG does not have a policy regarding its growth, I can't change this (only big shots call the shots and you know who they are - maybe you can slip this idea to them). That is the situation I guess. I will not teach the big Kahunas how to sell an idea (they know better), so, I guess it is all about what business move they have in their head and if WCG is not meant to grow trough active marketing I can't change a thing about this, right? |

I understand the concept of targeting people who enjoy stats and ranking up ect.. Lets face it a lot of people enjoy doing that on WGC so it is similar. I don't know much about farmville but I think this could be a good idea. Can you tell me if it is possible to donate farmville currency in the game to other players? If you can it would be possible for us to play the game and use farmville currency that way instead of paying for it.

honestly i play farmvill and a few other facebook games (and a few other RPG games) honestly i really dont see much slowdown from WCG and BOINC.
----------------------------------------i think its a great idea and if we manage to get 1 more serious mega cruncher out of it.. or alot of people who can bring 1 computer part-time even than it was worth all the heartache it took to get them. heck if i could donate the farmvill or the other game cash to other people to convince them to donate there time here i would gladly have all my game accounts droped seriously in game cash and game points and ect to get even 1 more consistent cruncher online. ![]() |

Hi nasher! My understanding of these performance stories is not that BOINC might disturb Farmville, but that Farmville is sucking a horrible amount of CPU and leaves little or nothing to BOINC. The positive side, if it is so badly written, is that it is probably doing so only in one core, hopefully. ![]() |

Action, lets move it forward!
damir1978: Can you write short email to FarmVille guys to start the topic? I was thinking in the same direction in this thread - possibly we can share ideas? https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,28674 |

I don't have the tools, brother. The men with the tools have their arms crossed and they are just looking. You should ask them as I do. Cheers. |
