I just started getting a message from the server that I have never seen before:
----------------------------------------3/26/2010 10:28:21 PM|World Community Grid|Sending scheduler request: To fetch work. Requesting 674677 seconds of work, reporting 0 completed tasks What does this mean: "there was work but it was committed to other platforms"?3/26/2010 10:28:26 PM|World Community Grid|Scheduler request succeeded: got 0 new tasks 3/26/2010 10:28:26 PM|World Community Grid|Message from server: No work sent 3/26/2010 10:28:26 PM|World Community Grid|Message from server: No work is available for Discovering Dengue Drugs - Together - Phase 2 (Type A) 3/26/2010 10:28:26 PM|World Community Grid|Message from server: No work available for the applications you have selected. Basically, if you've got a Windows machine and all the work which is currently available is for (say) a Mac, then that's the message you get
----------------------------------------More work for your machine type will more than likely come along very shortly... Edit : If you're asking for a very large number of WU's at a time (as can ben seen by the number of seconds you're requesting), then the hoppers may not just, temporarily be able to cope with the demand for your machine type. If you're asking for a very large number of WU's at a time (as can ben seen by the number of seconds you're requesting), then the hoppers may not just, temporarily be able to cope with the demand for your machine type. My machine is not asking for alot. While I was at work I set the profile for DDDT2 and HFCC and zero queue. When I came home I unselected HFCC and set the queue to 1 day. Since it is a quad-core it has a big appetite.Basically, if you've got a Windows machine and all the work which is currently available is for (say) a Mac, then that's the message you get I did not not know that WUs were dedicated to specific platforms. I though WUs were all the same. While I was typing this post, it finally got something to cruch, Cheers |

Maybe I'll add a "message from server:" subsection to the FAQ index. We've got only 1 there. Volunteers to assemble them and do a little write up for all related to the work fetch types?
----------------------------------------But no wait, here's a handy list from the UnOfficial BONC wiki who's already collected many :D http://boinc-wiki.info/Special:Search?search=message+from+server&go=Go I'll add that as a general topic to the SHFI (Start Here FAQ Index) Good morning world, seriously, the sun is blasting down after a week of The Fog

While the Wiki does answer the question, it doesn't speak well to a person without a fairly intimate knowledge of how BOINC servers operate. At the risk of making an even bigger fool of myself, I'll attempt to simplify and paraphrase:
----------------------------------------Say there are three results to send out, each of those is broken into three work units and sent to the hopper to be distributed, the first machine to ask for a WU is a Mac and it is given the one off the top of the pile. At this point, the other two work units for that result have to go to Macs. The remaining six work units will go to the next machine that asks, say a Windows or Linux box. That commits the matching work units to whichever platform the first one is sent to. So, if you have a Windows machine and the only available work units are already committed to Linux for example, you'll see that message. Hope that's clearer than mud. ----------------------------------------It makes sense; I had just never encountered that message (or pehaps noticed) before. Cheers |

It makes sense; I had just never encountered that message (or pehaps noticed) before. On most projects, you won't see it. However, if you set your systems for very rare WUs that get pushed out slowly, such as betas and this project, you may see it quite regularly. |

There's an additional [obfuscating] message when the beta feeders are on line but wont tell. Selecting Beta by itself is not possible, fortunately [MPO] ... that's an either in the program or out the program :D

Thanks, KWSN!!
----------------------------------------So, "platform" refers to the type of computer hardware that a client/user has? Second question: I set device preference for Smash Childhood Cancer and Help stop TB. I get two messages Mon 21 Jan 2019 12:57:09 PM EST | World Community Grid | No tasks are available for Help Stop TB Mon 21 Jan 2019 12:57:09 PM EST | World Community Grid | No tasks are available for the applications you have selected. Today, 21 Jan 2019, The Help stop TB WU are not available. I understand that message. I *assume* the other message refers to Smash Childhood Cancer -but the message is not explicit. From the home page -> Research, (https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/research/viewAllProjects.do) the info for Smash Childhood Cancer says it is 100% complete. Why not give the "No work available" - if that is the case? THANKS!!!! Jay |
