The time allocated for computing a work unit (return delay) is usually a number of full days, e.g. 10, 8 or 7 currently.
----------------------------------------Consequently the deadline time in the task list of BOINC Manager is usually the same as the download time. However, for countries which have different winter and summer times, this deadline time is off by one hour several days before the normal date of the time change and that looks like BOINC Manager is not able to handle the time change correctly. In fact BOINC Manager is right and what is wrong is our habit to use the deadline time in the list as the download time. BOINC Manager is correctly taking the coming time change in account and the deadline time shown in the list is the time it will be on the deadline day, i.e. when the time change will have already taken place. If we take the normal case of a 10-day deadline, jobs downloaded less than 10 days before the actual time change will have their deadline time one hour later than the download time if it is the Spring time change, or one hour earlier if it is the Fall time change. And this situation will last until the last job downloaded before the time change. Note 1: When there are different return delays depending on the application (like for DDDT2 type A and B jobs currently) it is possible to download several tasks at the same time, some with the "correct" deadline time and some with the "wrong" time, depending on the application they are belonging. This situation (which may add to the confusion) can happen between 10 days before the time change and 7 days before the time change (with the various return delays currently in use). And for "reliable" devices it can happen until 4 days before the time change for "repair" jobs with a 4-day return delay. Note 2: The Results Status pages are not affected by this phenomenon since all times in these pages are UTC times. ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by JmBoullier at Mar 23, 2010 9:23:08 AM] |
