Thank you all for your help, but, Viktros, the CPU hasalways used 100% CPU. I am pretty sure I do not have hyperthreading with my processor, and I am running WCG on only one processor per computer.

OK, you are not hyperthreading. If you double-click on the WCG icon to bring up your Agent, then select 'Preferences', what sort of Profile are you running under. Default - running anytime. or what? Is 'Run only as screensaver' checked or unchecked? For that matter, does your computer system have multiple users that you must select when you boot up? These are the sorts of things that can reduce your run time, but none of them should affect Task Monitor the way hyperthreading would. Incidentally, http://www.belarc.com offers a free download of Belarc Advisor, which creates a HTML page listing much about your system, though it does not benchmark it.

Okay, mycrofth, 'Run only as screensaver' is unchecked, both execution and connection times are anytime, profile default, and
'Days of the Week' are Every Day. I am the only user on my laptop, but the desktop I have taken over has three users. |

Ah ha-a-a !!
I have got to get into the habit of asking for complete system information when I tackle even a simple question. Laptops come with a number of specialized custom routines provided by the manufacturer. Some laptops keep their CPUs cool by slowing them down or by injecting forced idle states when they start to overheat. This is very dependent on the environmental temperature, and therefore a laptop that runs 100% in the winter might run more slowly in summer. Task Manager will not notice any clock slowdowns, but will notice idle states. Please identify your laptop completely. Your manufacturer should give fairly complete information about this, though it may not be available on the Internet. Grinning cheerfully, a no longer puzzled . . . mycrofth |

I´m having the same "problem", that is, running with 50% CPU usage. I have a Pentium 4 HT.
I know the Agent is not capable of using the HT feature, but this is a waste of CPU idle time, since all the New Intel CPUs are Hyperthreaded. I have also the client installed on a dual CPU computer... with the same problem. Is there any roadmap to include HT / Dual CPU features in a new version of the client ? tks, rmoura |

Rmoura,
----------------------------------------you are not wasting any CPU time, even though you seemingly run "only" 50% CPU. WCG agent uses all your processor power and there is no reason for changing it to use HT feature. It would not speed up things at all, because there is only one core in your HT processor. Dual processor comps and dual core single processors are of course another story. Regards, Ivang. [Edit 3 times, last edit by Former Member at Jul 5, 2005 10:09:08 PM] |

Rmoura.
----------------------------------------Ivang is correct. You are not wasting CPU time. The 50% report from your task manager is bogus. Please look here I have asked about the multi-processor and dual-processor support and have learned that it is not likely to be available soon. While they have it on the "wish list", I am not sure when or even if it will be done on Rosetta. Regards. |
