It was February 25, 2010 00:06 UTC stats that showed 500,044 uniquely registered member ID's. Of those 281,573 had at that time a BOINC account with contribution, of those about 34% were/are actively contributing.

Announcement... who's got multiple accounts with contribution :? We as members can still throw the party honoring WCG for hosting the 15 projects to date, to what I figure a cost of 15 million US, probably with hidden cost a multiple and the priceless contributions of all the members, heard or not heard.

Till then, celebrating we surely do in a little... 400,000,000 results in about 12 days at present speed, when it turns 500,000,000 I'm sure there will be a major break-out of the virtual bubbles.

Is an important milestone conquested under any aspects or point of views.

As I check it now, Boincstats shows 282450 participants with 908283 "hosts".

But, whatever the correct figure, active, total, this is in a world of what? One billion computers?

There are so many projects here and other non-WCG projects running on BOINC software that would benefit from larger numbers of subscribers and their "hosts".

We need to be trying to promote this work. I do it now through Facebook; but that is getting old. There are blogs. But I think everything is speaking to the existing community. We need to speak to the rest of the computer literate world, not just I/T and tech people.

I am visiting my daughter's family in Los Angeles. I went with her to take her six-year old to school. I asked in the office if they had computers in the school. They said yes. So, I asked, how would you like to turn your kids on to some really cool science. I described crunching a bit, told them about teams - kids like teams - they asked me to send some literature, which I will do.

One school? Ask a thousand, most will never do anything. But, ask: schools, companies, religious institutions, people on your block If you get one response it is better than not trying.
