2010 Chile earthquake
The 2010 Chile earthquake occurred off the coast of the Maule Region of Chile[4] on February 27, 2010, at 03:34 local time (06:34 UTC), rating a magnitude of 8.8 on the moment magnitude scale, and lasting up to 3 minutes.[5][6] It was felt strongly in eight Chilean regions (from Coquimbo in the north to Los RĂos in the south), that together make up 80 percent of the country's population... ![]() |

Could it be that one year has already passed since the quake? I can remember it as if it was just a few months ago. The people that were affected are in my prayers.
----------------------------------------Also, now with the New Zealand quake it seems that there just has got to be a way to predict when they will happen so that everyone can be put to safety before it actually happens. They are also in my prayers. ![]() Join The International Team: https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/team/viewTeamInfo.do?teamId=CK9RP1BKX1 AMD TR2990WX @ PBO, 64GB Quad 3200MHz 14-17-17-17-1T, RX6900XT @ Stock AMD 3800X @ PBO AMD 2700X @ 4GHz |

Comparing magnitude
Energy released by an earthquake is measured on a moment magnitude scale. Each step on the scale is ten times greater than the step before it. Each gray sphere below is ten times greater in volume than the sphere to its left |

An interesting story on the Christchruch quake and the liquification of the soil underneath, probably accounting for most of the damage.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-12668190 Note the photo of the town seconds after the quake starts and how smoke billows form the town centre. Power of the Earth, many lives lost, 11 billion NZD of estimated damage, 10,000 dwellings condemned. |

Sadly predictable after Christchurch, not to the week, day or hour, once more on the same extension of continental friction lines did another quake occur. A very heavy 8.9 hit Japan followed by a 10 meter high Tsunami, which is also moving across the Pacific, in mirror to the 2005 Indian ocean Tsunami that started at Indonesia and hit Sri Lanka and the African coast, causing many many of lives lost thousands of miles away from the epicentre.
